Job DescriptionJob Title: Maintenance Mechanic (Union, 2nd or 3rd Shift) Job Description This role focuses on performing preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on production equipment and plant utilities in a unionized chemical manufacturing facility. You will troubleshoot mechanical issues, support equipment startups and shutdowns, and keep critical systems operating safely and reliably on 2nd or 3rd shift. Responsibilities • Perform preventive and corrective mechanical maintenance on production equipment and plant utilities., • Clean, service, and maintain pumps, mixers, agitators, valves, filters, and piping systems., • Execute preventive maintenance tasks on machinery according to established schedules., • Support equipment startups and shutdowns to ensure safe and efficient operation., • Troubleshoot mechanical failures on motors, pulleys, belts, valves, bearings, gearboxes, piping, and pumps, and determine appropriate corrective actions., • Replace or repair mechanical components such as bearings, belts, motors, gearboxes, and piping., • Assemble and disassemble equipment as required for maintenance, repair, or inspection., • Respond promptly to urgent equipment or facility issues during the assigned shift., • Work from maintenance work orders, accurately document repairs, and update information in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)., • Interact closely with production personnel to diagnose equipment issues and minimize downtime., • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices to perform mechanical repairs and adjustments., • Apply knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems with panel controls to maintain and troubleshoot equipment., • Follow OSHA, environmental, and union safety rules while working in a chemical manufacturing environment., • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and comply with respirator fit requirements., • Maintain a clean and orderly work area to support safe and efficient maintenance activities.Essential Skills, • 5+ years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience, or 3+ years combined with formal schooling or certifications in a related field., • Strong experience performing mechanical work on hydraulic, pneumatic, piping, and conveyor systems., • Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns involving motors, pulleys, belts, valves, bearings, gearboxes, piping, and pumps., • Hands-on experience with equipment assembly, disassembly, and supporting startups and shutdowns., • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings., • Mechanical aptitude, including proficient use of tools and measuring devices., • Basic understanding of piping systems, rotating equipment, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and mechanical systems with panel controls., • Experience performing both preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance, with the ability to go beyond routine PM tasks., • Ability to work safely in a dusty chemical manufacturing environment., • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and consistently wear required respiratory protection., • Comfort working on 2nd shift (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) or 3rd shift (11:00 pm – 7:30 am).Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Formal technical training, degrees, or certifications in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, or a related field., • Experience with electrical troubleshooting up to 480V (maintenance is primarily mechanical, but exposure is beneficial)., • Previous experience in a chemical manufacturing environment., • Familiarity with boiler and chiller utility system repairs., • Exposure to hazardous material handling and related safety procedures., • Experience with liquid process systems and associated equipment., • Ability to work effectively in a union environment and follow established procedures., • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track work orders and maintenance history., • Strong communication skills to collaborate with production and maintenance teams.Why Work Here? The position operates on 2nd shift (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) or 3rd shift (11:00 pm – 7:30 am), with shift differentials provided. Work involves regular use of mechanical tools, equipment, and measuring devices, as well as interaction with pumps, mixers, agitators, valves, filters, piping systems, and other production machinery. Strict adherence to safety procedures is required, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment and passing a respirator fit test. Facial hair must be managed to maintain a proper respirator seal. The facility operates as a union shop, with established work rules, safety standards, and maintenance processes guiding daily activities.
