Job Description Job Title: Supervising Attorney Job Category: Management Department: Attorney Location: Main Office – Grand Rapids Team: Manager Reports to: Director of Operations Pay Type: Salary Travel Required: Yes Position Type: Full Time HR Contact: HR Director General Purpose: Plan, direct, and coordinate the operations of the Attorney department. Maintain systems and procedures for operating efficiency. Manage staff for optimum performance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Reviews legal opinions prepared by attorney staff., • Provides direction and supervision to attorney staff according to overall company policy., • Take the lead role in negotiations that are complex, strategic or sensitive in nature., • Provide leadership through mentoring other attorneys and legal support staff., • As necessary, review cases to determine and ensure appropriate action., • Effective communication with staff, clients, and opposing parties., • Work collaboratively with and support colleagues across the legal department., • Respect one another and relationships with staff, supervisors, and managers., • Draft necessary legal documents and develop conclusions and recommendations., • Determine staffing needs and assist with hiring and training new attorneys., • Coordinate attorney staff activities to ensure maximum efficiency., • Set employee goals and objectives, participate in ongoing monitoring, and provide feedback including performance reviews., • Manage internal staff relations., • Coach, mentor, motivate, and discipline attorney staff according to company goals and policies., • Implement procedures and training to maximize operating efficiency., • Prepare operational reports and analysis of activity, productivity, goal progress, and employee feedback to direct supervisor., • Accurately document all meetings and communication involving staffing issues and concerns., • Enlist the efforts of administration when necessary to accelerate the attorney process., • Assist attorneys with trouble shooting and processing complex cases., • Communicate effectively with administration regarding department concerns, staffing issues, and complex cases. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS: • Perform other coordination/management positions as referenced in separate Job Descriptions and as assigned., • Maintain a safe and secure working environment., • Ensure security, integrity, compliance, and confidentiality of data., • Ensure that all tasks meet compliance standards., • Follow procedures and training to maximize accuracy and efficiency., • Serve as a resource person for advanced questions and work cooperatively with all team members to coordinate procedures, policies, and support., • Coordinate schedules, meetings, and work coverage during employee absences., • Report and coordinate primarily with Administration regarding work-related product., • Provide suggestions for changes and improvement., • All other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • High School Diploma, • Possess a Juris Doctorate Degree From An Accredited School of Law, • Be in Good Standing in The Michigan State Bar, • Have Completed At Least 60 Semester Hours or 90 Quarter Hours Toward an Undergraduate Degree From An Accredited School or While Attending an Accredited Junior or Community College, • Moral Fitness, • Dependable With a Strong Court and Work Ethic, • Detail Oriented and Well Organized, • Ability to Gather, Compile Information, Analyze Data and Prepare Reports, • Possesses The Means to Multi-Task and Function In a High Volume, and Deadline Driven Environment, • Committed to Learning The Interworking of a Very Specialized Field, • Ability to Read, Interpret, Understand, and Implement Laws, Regulations, and Regulatory Requirements, • Excellent Written, Oral, and Interpersonal Communication Skills, • Capacity to Communicate With Co-Workers At All Levels in The Company and A Team Player, • Adept in Microsoft Office, Windows, LexiNexis and/or Westlaw, • Knowledge of Management Practices and Procedures., • Proven Track Record in Management/Oversight., • Demonstrated Loyalty and Ownership of Position and Responsibilities., • Ability to Prioritize and Manage Multiple Responsibilities., • Pleading Preparation, • Negotiation, • Trial Preparation, • Document Review, • Analytical and Research Skills, • Effective Communication with Clients and Opposing Counsel, • Ability to Work Independently, Collaborate With Others, and Manage a Heavy Workload, • Required Language Skills.
