We’re passionate about good food, community, and creating a warm, welcoming experience for every customer! About the Role... The Deli Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily operations of the deli department. This includes supervising staff, maintaining quality and food safety standards, ensuring excellent customer service, and driving efficiency. We’re looking for an experienced supervisor who shares our passion for artisanal foods, has strong leadership skills, and takes pride in both the craft and customer experience. This position reports to the Lead Supervisor and Retail Manager. In the absence of the Retail Manager, our supervisors are responsible for the store and employees’ performance, confidently handle disciplinary actions when required, and foster good morale. Key Responsibilities: -Leadership & Team Management • Supervise and support retail floor + deli counter during daily operations, delegate tasks when necessary, • Train new deli team members in all areas, • Oversee daily break schedule to ensure proper staffing, • Conduct/lead team huddles when deemed necessary, • Assist customers behind the deli counter – become the expert for all services and products offered, • Resolve customer complaints, • Cultivate a friendly, knowledgeable, and service-driven experience, • Maintain clean, organized and well-stocked deli cases at all times, • Ensure protocols for opening/closing the store are met on a daily occurrence, • Oversee all the deli’s display cases -- meats, salads, entrees, pre-packed goods, fresh pastas, • Properly handle cash -- count cash drawers, make cash drops, provide change, etc., • Monitor inventory and place orders with suppliers to ensure product availability, • Maintain cleanliness and organization -- both front and back of the house, • Ensure compliance with food safety protocols, including proper labeling, storage, and temperature control, • Communicate promptly when problems occur – maintenance, emergencies, security, attendance, incident reports, disciplinary action, etc., • Assist in other areas as needed Skills & Qualifications: • Supervisory experience, at least 2-3 years in fast paced environment (food environment preferred), • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, • Strong team member, strong team leadership skills, • Quick problem solver, multitasker, • Maintain steady work pace, • Highly organized, • Punctuality, outstanding time management skills Physical Requirements of the Job: • Stand for extended periods of time, 7+ hours, • Lift, carry, move up to 35 lbs, • Must be able to bend and reach consistently, several times a day Certifications (Preferred): • Food Handler Certificate/ServSafe Certificate, • Supervisory Sexual Harassment Prevention TrainingCompany DescriptionRockridge Market Hall is Oakland’s marketplace, a collection of eight owner-operated shops, each expert in their crafts, creating the building blocks of home dining, creative cooking and festive entertaining.
