Job Description Catastrophic Failure Response Technician – Press & Automation Location: Warren, MI (with frequent travel to North American stamping facilities) Job Description The Catastrophic Failure Response Technician specializing in Press & Automation serves as the primary technical responder for major equipment breakdowns, catastrophic failures, and critical incidents within stamping and manufacturing environments. This role emphasizes advanced diagnostics, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and equipment reliability improvement. The technician is deployed to support high-impact events, lead on-site failure investigations, coordinate repair and recovery operations, and maintain standardized reporting systems and inspection protocols. You will collaborate with engineering teams, maintenance personnel, and operations leadership to restore industrial equipment functionality, ensure safe operations, and prevent future failures through proactive condition monitoring and continuous improvement practices. Key Responsibilities Catastrophic Failure Response & Troubleshooting • Act as the first responder for equipment failures, press breakdowns, and automation system issues in industrial manufacturing facilities, • Perform in-depth diagnostics across mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and basic electrical/controls systems, • Coordinate with maintenance teams, operations, and external vendors to ensure safe startup procedures, issue containment, and solution validation, • Lead or support root cause analysis methodologies including 5-Why analysis, Fishbone diagrams, and Fault Tree analysis, • Develop and execute corrective action plans with clear timelines, ownership, and verification processes, • Document failure modes, lessons learned, and best practices for knowledge sharing and continuous improvement, • Maintain failure logs, event reports, and downtime tracking systems for press and automation equipment, • Drive cross-site communication of failure trends, root causes, and corrective actions to support read-across initiatives, • Analyze equipment reliability metrics such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), • Develop and implement standardized inspection procedures and preventive maintenance schedules, • Identify critical inspection points to detect early-stage equipment failures, • Integrate inspection routines into PM programs, digital checklists, and standard work practices, • Recommend equipment adjustments, targeted repairs, and preventive maintenance actions based on condition monitoring data Required Qualifications • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience), • Minimum 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, field service, or heavy manufacturing environments, • Strong expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, • Proven ability in troubleshooting complex machinery and equipment repair, • Excellent communication skills with experience collaborating across cross-functional teams Preferred Qualifications • Experience with FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), risk assessment, or reliability engineering, • Hands-on experience with stamping presses, automation systems, destacking systems, conveyance systems, and press transfer systems, • Background as a Field Service Technician, Reliability Technician, or Maintenance Lead in industrial manufacturing Catastrophic Failure Response, Press Automation, Industrial Maintenance, Root Cause Analysis, Equipment Diagnostics, Mechanical Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Pneumatic Systems, Electrical Controls, Troubleshooting, Corrective Actions, Reliability Engineering, Preventive Maintenance, Condition Monitoring, CMMS, Maximo, MTBF, MTTR, Stamping Presses, Automation Systems, Field Service Technician, Manufacturing Equipment, Failure Analysis, Continuous Improvement, Maintenance Technician, Industrial Equipment Repair Company DescriptionHiring Transparency & AI Disclosure Statement In compliance with applicable Canadian employment regulations, we confirm that this job posting represents a current, active vacancy within our organization.
