Job Description Job Title: Manufacturing Technician Job Description The Manufacturing Technician supports all aspects of the thin film manufacturing process, including coating, metrology, fabrication, parts cleaning and assembly, incoming and final inspection, data interpretation, and data entry. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement while working collaboratively across multiple operations and manufacturing departments. The technician follows detailed instructions and procedures, handles delicate and varied components, and contributes to the overall mission through disciplined execution, integrity, and respect for colleagues. Responsibilities • Support all aspects of the thin film manufacturing process, including coating, metrology, fabrication, parts cleaning and assembly, and both incoming and final inspection., • Perform product and machine inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards and process specifications., • Interpret production data, analyze results, and promptly report abnormalities to the appropriate person or department., • Assemble fixtures, parts, and tooling, and assist with calibrating tools and machines as required., • Clean products, parts, tooling, machines, and work areas to maintain a clean and organized production environment., • Handle fragile products and parts ranging in size from approximately 1 millimeter to 450 millimeters and weighing from less than 1 gram up to 25 kilograms, using proper handling and contamination control protocols., • Follow instructions and procedures precisely while actively offering suggestions for continuous improvement in processes and workflows., • Maintain housekeeping, sanitation, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements in all assigned areas., • Use Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Outlook, Teams, and other manufacturing programs and databases, to record data, communicate, and manage documentation., • Adhere to company quality, environmental, sustainability, and safety policies, as well as applicable standards and regulations., • Work collaboratively as a team player, supporting shift work activities and cooperating with colleagues across all operations and manufacturing departments., • Troubleshoot basic production issues and escalate more complex problems to the appropriate personnel., • Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality to support production schedules and team performance., • Operate within material management systems and file directory structures to locate, store, and track production information and documentation., • Experience in thin film manufacturing or any manufacturing environment, with exposure to optical coating, metrology, disposition, cleaning, parts assembly, or fabrication considered a strong advantage., • Mechanical or scientific aptitude, with the ability to understand and work with production equipment and processes., • Proficiency with basic computer skills and comfort working with machinery in a production environment., • Skilled in using material management systems, databases, and Microsoft 365 tools, including Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, and file directory architecture., • Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and execute detailed written instructions, procedures, and short correspondence such as emails, texts, and instant messages., • Ability to write simple, informational, and technical correspondence clearly and accurately., • Familiarity with quality, environmental, and safety programs, standards, and regulations such as ISO 9001, CAL OSHA, and clean room requirements., • Familiarity with lean manufacturing tools and methods, including 5S, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement cycles., • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and an understanding of geometric concepts such as angles and shapes., • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy in repetitive and precision tasks., • Team-oriented mindset with a drive to meet goals and improve processes collaboratively., • Ability to work as a self-starter, both independently with limited supervision and as part of a team., • Ability to work Monday through Friday on a 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM shift, with flexibility for overtime as needed., • Some college coursework in a STEM discipline, such as mechanical, industrial, or electrical engineering, or physics is preferred., • Experience in optical manufacturing, thin film coating, cleanroom environments, or medical device manufacturing is a plus., • Experienced and certified forklift driver experience is highly desirable., • Interest in scientific and technical concepts related to optics, thin films, or precision manufacturing., • Comfort working with lasers, solvents, cleaning agents, sharp instruments, and high-temperature equipment while following safety protocols. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing environment with generally moderate temperatures and noise levels, which may occasionally become elevated. The position requires the ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods, depending on job duties, and to perform highly repetitive hand and arm motions for up to 10 hours. Work involves handling delicate optical components and precision tools with fine manual control while strictly adhering to contamination control and handling protocols. The technician may perform overhead and elevated tasks, including ladder work, and must be able to reach, stoop, bend, sit, kneel, squat, and stand for extended periods. The role involves working with solvents, cleaning agents, lasers, sharp instruments, and high-temperature equipment, always following established safety and part-handling procedures. Visual acuity for close and mid-range tasks, including viewing small components and using microscopes, is essential. When working in cleanroom or controlled areas, the employee must wear appropriate attire such as a respirator, hairnet, face mask, gloves, and a cleanroom suit. The position may require extended hours or overtime to meet production demands. The technician must be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment and occasionally lift and move up to 35 pounds. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Rosa, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
