Job Description Job Title: Commercial HVAC Technician Job Description This senior-level Commercial HVAC Technician role focuses on servicing, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of commercial HVAC systems. The position requires a highly skilled technician with at least 5 years of on-the-job experience who can work independently, solve complex HVAC service issues, and maintain strong communication and customer relationships in commercial and construction environments. Responsibilities • Service, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a broad range of commercial HVAC systems, including RTUs, AHUs, DOAS systems, VRF/VRV, split systems, chillers, cooling towers, boilers (oil, gas, and electric), VAVs, and water source equipment., • Work with DDC controls and building management systems (BMS) to monitor, adjust, and optimize commercial HVAC performance., • Use computer and PC-based service tool software to perform diagnostics, configure equipment, and document service activities., • Independently identify and resolve complex HVAC service issues with minimal supervision, ensuring timely and effective solutions for customers., • Install, commission, and service commercial HVAC equipment as required for construction and retrofit projects., • Perform mechanical repairs and adjustments on HVAC components to restore proper operation and efficiency., • Report and track project and service status accurately, providing clear updates and documentation as needed., • Maintain a high level of integrity, professionalism, and customer service during all customer interactions., • Present a professional appearance and demeanor while working on customer sites in commercial buildings and construction environments., • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards., • Apply strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple service calls, tasks, and priorities., • At least 5 years of on-the-job experience servicing a variety of commercial HVAC systems., • Hands-on experience with commercial equipment including RTUs, AHUs, DOAS systems, VRF/VRV, split systems, chillers, cooling towers, boilers (oil, gas, electric), VAVs, and water source equipment., • Working knowledge of DDC controls and building management systems (BMS)., • Ability to use computer and PC-based service tool software for diagnostics and configuration., • Proven ability to work independently and solve complex HVAC service issues with minimal supervision., • Strong mechanical aptitude in troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and installing commercial HVAC systems., • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with customers and team members., • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage documentation, scheduling, and service reports., • Dependable work ethic with a consistent and reliable approach to attendance and job performance., • Professional appearance and demeanor in all customer-facing situations., • Ability to build and maintain positive customer relationships through strong listening skills and responsiveness., • Experience in commercial service and installation within commercial buildings and construction environments., • in construction-related HVAC work, including installation and commissioning of systems., • Knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems is a plus., • Knowledge of geothermal systems is an added benefit., • Experience working with a variety of mechanical and service tools in the field., • Ability to effectively report, track, and communicate project and service status to stakeholders., • Personable, customer-focused approach with strong listening and problem-solving skills. Work Environment Work takes place primarily in commercial buildings and construction environments, involving a variety of commercial HVAC systems and related mechanical equipment. The role requires frequent on-site visits, use of service tools and PC-based diagnostic software, and interaction with building systems such as DDC controls and building management systems. Technicians maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while working in active commercial and construction settings, adapting to different site conditions and adhering to safety and quality standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Crofton, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
