Aureos is seeking a Head of Environment and Sustainability to lead the Environment and Sustainability teams across the business; ensuring competent resource, effective management systems, implementation of strategies and procedures, providing leadership to the senior management team. Primary duties, responsibilities and accountabilities • Leading by example in all areas of health, safety, sustainability and wellbeing., • Ensure sufficient resource as required and budgeted, in line with client requirements, internal professional competency frameworks, policy and strategies., • Ensure effective management systems, including the identification of opportunities for improvement, and accurate reporting enabling timely decision making., • Ensure relevant strategies, procedures and improvement plans are embedded, implemented, monitored and remain relevant., • Leadership including challenge where required, promotion of behaviours, standards and methods of working, representing the company at external events., • Active attendance and participation in strategic level internal and external meetings / forums., • Lead on environment and sustainability related compliance, assurance and opportunities for improvement including internal audits, managing investigations and monitoring trends in contributions and inspections., • Lead on ESG reporting for the business; being accountable for carbon, environmental and social value data, plus facilitating input from other functions as required., • Professional lead for environmental management., • On site presence, demonstrate working knowledge of the business activities and provision of support to promote a learning culture for environmental sustainability and social value. Secondary duties, responsibilities and accountabilities • Liaison with regulatory/enforcement bodies when required., • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders., • Support external audits e.g. ISO14001, PAS2080 and ensuring these accreditations are maintained., • Deputise for HSQE Director as required. Qualifications and Training Essential: • Degree or equivalent in relevant Environmental Management or Sustainability subject., • Chartership or working towards in relevant professional body (e.g. ISEP)., • Driving Licence or other means of travel to remote sites across UK and Ireland. Desirable: • CSCS / EUSR / PTS, • Mental Health First Aider, • First Aider, • Auditor Knowledge and Experience Essential: • Understanding of working methods, health, safety and environmental management systems and relevant ISO., • Experience working at a senior management level in a relevant industry., • Able to demonstrate strong safety leadership and people management skills., • Knowledge of risk identification and management., • Working understanding of projects (ideally in a construction environment), management systems and relevant legislation., • Experience of implementing a strategy, communicating targets, assessing risk and opportunity, reporting and ongoing monitoring., • Passion for sustainability demonstrated through the ability to effectively communicate knowledge., • Understanding of wellbeing and a way of working that puts people at the heart of the strategy., • Positive attitude and ability to influence others., • Excellent time management and relationship skills, comfortably working effectively within a broad range of working environments., • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, able to build relationships based on trust, drive positive change and respond to challenge in an inclusive manner., • Ability to drive continuous improvement, challenging the status quo for the benefit of the business, supporting learning and development., • Ability to use IT systems including Microsoft 365, specific systems and tools (e.g. carbon accounting, social value reporting). Desirable: • Industrial knowledge across Infrastructure sectors (rail, energy, highways, nuclear, water etc)., • Relevant site experience and ability to have quality safety tours/conversations., • Experience in significant incident investigation., • Working knowledge of ISO50001, PAS2080 and ESOS., • Experience of carbon reporting across all scopes and the use of carbon tools., • Understanding of circular economy principles and lifecycles, waste legislation, bio-diversity (including accounting tools), social value (including accounting) and consents., • Understanding of sustainable procurement, design and engineering, utilities and EDI.
