About the role We are looking for a creative and experienced Development Producer to join our remote digital video team. You will be responsible for writing engaging, informative, and accurate development briefs for long-form videos related to Physics, Maths, Engineering, and other related subjects. You will also help to oversee the wider team to develop their ideas, readying them for greenlight & production. Key Responsibilities This role will be responsible for driving the development process across Veritasium, getting a slate of ideas ready to essentially discuss/ ‘pitch’ to the editor-in-chief on a regular basis. However, you do not necessarily need experience in pitching ideas directly to client or channel heads, etc, your ideas and original thinking are far more important than a proven ability to ‘sell’ ideas. In this role, you will be at the heart of idea generation and story development. You’ll research deeply, think boldly, and craft detailed development briefs that form the foundation for engaging and rigorous science videos. You’ll collaborate with the wider team, guiding concepts from spark to production-ready, and ensuring a steady pipeline of greenlit projects to maintain video output. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of science, storytelling, and digital media. Ownership and strategy • Lead the end-to-end development function, from idea intake to greenlight, with clear ownership of outcomes, • Maintain an active, prioritised development slate and schedule, visible to the Editor in Chief and leadership, • Make timely go or no-go decisions within agreed windows, balancing ambition with resources and timelines Ideation • Drive a high-tempo ideation culture, hold the team accountable for regular idea submission, coach to improve idea quality, • Generate original ideas yourself, informed by audience signals and brand positioning, • Source ideas from diverse places, including journals, conferences, preprints, expert communities, and adjacent fields, • Prepare and deliver short pitches to editorial leads, with clear value propositions and risks Development and research • Research complex topics in physics, mathematics, engineering, and related fields, distilling them into compelling, accurate video propositions, • Trace claims back to primary sources when required, including scientific papers and original datasets, • Write, revise, and edit development briefs that capture hypothesis, narrative arc, key beats, experiments or demos, experts, and primary sources, • Assess feasibility early, including access, filming constraints, timelines, cost, and editorial risk, • Stay current on scientific advances and debates, track emerging themes that could yield future stories Scoping, pipeline, and handover • Working with Writers and Directors, scope each approved idea into a practical plan, including story outline, research status, access requirements, production needs, and success criteria, • Own the development calendar, ensure a steady pipeline of well-scoped projects ready for editorial review and greenlight, • Brief production at handoff, document research status and story angle so the team starts with a strong foundation, • Initiate early contact with institutions and experts, secure interviews, location access, and permissions where long lead times are likely, • Track progress against milestones, unblock dependencies, and communicate changes promptly to stakeholders, • Mentor and organise the wider team to keep idea generation and development momentum high, share best practice, and uphold editorial standards Skills and experience • A strong bachelor's degree or higher in Physics, Maths, Engineering, or a related field. This is essential, please do not apply without this level of qualification., • Video or TV-making experience, preferably in STEM, • Proven experience in long-form or feature science communication, ideally with knowledge of science YouTube content, or at the very least a genuine passion and love of YouTube content., • A portfolio showcasing writing ability, attention to detail, and ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and engaging way., • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines, • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality content that meets the standards of the YouTube channel., • Passionate about educating and inspiring others about Physics and science in general, • Flexibility to travel internationally to be on location for certain shoots Electrify Culture • Dynamic environment - We are dedicated to providing a world-class creative culture where our employees can thrive.
