We are seeking a Communications & Event Planning Intern to join our DMV-area team and support company-wide initiatives across branding, messaging, and engagement. This unpaid internship provides a structured, educational learning experience aligned with the interns academic coursework and professional interests offering hands-on opportunities to learn and play a real role in communications and outreach efforts alongside teams across the organization. Under close supervision youll contribute to reviewing and editing internal and external documents, drafting and scheduling social media content, and helping coordinate both internal and partner-facing events. The primary purpose of this internship is training and professional development. Youll gain hands-on experience in document production, editorial workflows, social media strategy, and event logistics. This position is ideal for someone who is organized, curious, and interested in exploring a career in communications, marketing, or corporate eventsespecially within a globally oriented organization. This internship is unpaid and eligible for academic credit. The intern will be based on site at DevTechs Arlington, VA Home Office, working three days per week with flexible scheduling to accommodate academic obligations. The intern will report directly to DevTechs Communications Associate and Operations Specialist. Supervisors will provide mentorship, training and the necessary documentation and complete evaluations to support university credit. This internship is intended to provide the intern with practical learning opportunities, including: • Developing professional writing, editing, and document production skills, • Understanding communications workflows and editorial review processes, • Learning social media content planning and brand alignment, • Gaining exposure to event planning, logistics, and coordination, • Building familiarity with digital, AI-assisted, and design tools used in communications, • Observing communications practices within a globally focused, policy-driven organization Your Impact Under close supervision and as part of a learning experience, the intern may assist with: • Copyedit and proofread internal and external documents, including proposals, academic research papers, reports, blog posts, and promotional materials, • Review and draft content for DevTech and our partners social media platforms and assist in maintaining a consistent, engaging online presence, • Support the creation and formatting of marketing and communications materials such as:, • Social media graphics and posts, • Blog posts and newsletters, • Case studies and one-pagers, • Event flyers, banners, and factsheets, • Observing and assisting with coordination of logistics for internal and external events, including researching venues, ordering supplies, booking travel, and preparing event materials, • Assist with designing and tracking branded items (e.g., t-shirts, mugs, folders) for internal use and outreach events, • Use AI and postproduction tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Sora, Suno, Canva, Adobe) for learning and support purposes only, to assist in developing short-form video content and visual collateral, • Help ensure formatting and visual consistency across communications products in accordance with DevTech and client branding guidelines (e.g., Department of State), • Contribute to communications tasks as assigned, including internal announcements, campaign support, and research, • Perform additional communications and event-related tasks as needed What You Will Bring • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (Communications, PR, Marketing, International Relations, Hospitality, or a related field preferred), • Strong attention to detail and editorial accuracy, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X/Twitter), • Basic proficiency with MS Office; experience with Canva, Adobe, or AI-assisted design tools is a plus, • Interest in public sector innovation, strategic communications, or policy-driven work, • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities Selection Process Applicants will be evaluated based on relevant coursework, demonstrated interest in communications and events, and interview performance. Finalists will be contacted for a brief interview with the DevTech team. This unpaid internship is structured in accordance with the U.S. Department of Labors Primary Beneficiary Test and is intended primarily for the educational benefit of the intern. The intern works under close supervision, does not displace paid employees, and is not entitled to wages, benefits or future employment because of participation.
