Job DescriptionAccounting Specialist (Project-Based Role) Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support our finance team in a project-based capacity. This role is responsible for a mix of administrative duties, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and compliance tasks. The ideal candidate has hands-on AP/AR experience, strong organizational skills, and is comfortable handling high-volume transactions in a fast-paced environment. Key ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Support • Open, organize, and process incoming mail on a daily basis, • Prepare and process payments by company (training provided, including check depositing procedures), • Scan and route invoices to the accounting inbox for processingAccounts Payable (AP), • Process daily operating expense invoices manually, • Prepare and process weekly check runs, • Organize printed checks by company, • Stuff envelopes and process outgoing mail using postage machine, • Code daily credit card transactions to the general ledger, • Code monthly Fuel Express invoices (retrieved via online portal)Accounts Receivable (AR), • Deposit checks daily, • Post check payments in BMI for Storey Kenworthy customers, • Post electronic payments accurately and timely, • Assist with sending invoices and monthly statements as neededCompliance, • Prepare and submit monthly sales tax remittances, • Log into state revenue websites to process electronic tax paymentsRequired Skills & Qualifications, • High School Diploma required, • 2–4 years of experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or Invoicing, • Strong data entry and reconciliation skills, • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite, • Experience with invoice processing and general accounting functions, • High attention to detail and ability to meet daily deadlinesPreferred Skills, • Familiarity with general ledger (GL) coding, • Experience working with accounting or billing systems (e.g., BMI) This is a Contract position based out of Des Moines, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.04 - $26.44/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
