Job Description Job Title: Material Handler Job Description This role focuses on safely handling materials within a large, organized manufacturing warehouse by operating stand-up and sit-down forklifts, picking and staging parts for production, and processing inbound and outbound shipments using computer-based systems. You will work on a first-shift schedule and play a key role in ensuring accurate inventory, timely order fulfillment, and efficient material flow throughout the facility. Responsibilities • Operate stand-up forklifts, including order/cherry picker or joey-style powered industrial trucks, to pick parts for production and customer orders., • Use sit-down and stand-up forklifts to unload trucks, receive materials, crates, and other products, and safely stock them within warehouse racks., • Pick parts accurately for production orders and ensure timely staging of products from production to designated areas., • Process outbound shipments using FedEx shipping software, ensuring correct packaging, documentation, and labeling., • Utilize a touchscreen computer system and warehouse management system (WMS) to access job lists, enter inventory data, and update order status., • Key in inventory information such as quantity, part numbers, purchase orders, and packing list details into the computer system with a high degree of accuracy., • Verify incoming shipments against receiving paperwork to confirm correct quantities, part numbers, and documentation., • Use RF scanners to receive products into inventory, perform picks, and identify or confirm bin locations for materials., • Lift and move materials weighing over 50 pounds as part of daily material handling and stocking tasks., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures and wearing required protective equipment., • Collaborate with team members and leads to prioritize tasks, support production needs, and ensure efficient material flow throughout the warehouse and production areas. Essential Skills • Previous forklift operating experience, including stand-up and/or sit-down forklifts., • Experience with order picker, cherry picker, or joey-style powered industrial trucks, or a strong comfort level working at heights with related forklift experience., • Ability to operate a stand-up forklift to pick parts and stock materials in warehouse racks., • Comfort using computers, including touchscreen computer systems, to access job lists and enter data., • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) or similar computer-based inventory tools., • Ability to lift and handle items weighing at least 50 pounds on a regular basis., • Basic receiving and shipping experience, including verifying shipments against receiving paperwork., • Ability to accurately key in inventory information such as quantities, part numbers, purchase orders, and packing list details., • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to work effectively in a large, labeled manufacturing and warehouse environment., • Willingness to complete an 8-hour forklift training and re-certification provided by the company. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience using RF scanners for receiving, picking, and inventory management.., • Material handling experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment., • Familiarity with shipping, receiving, and WMS processes., • Comfort working with varying workloads, including unloading multiple containers per week. Work Environment This is a first-shift position, working Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of working until 4:30 p.m. based on workload. The role is based in a large, organized manufacturing floor and adjacent warehouse, where all sections are clearly labeled by materials and production areas. The facility is clean and climate controlled, providing a comfortable and safe working environment. You will work around powered industrial trucks, warehouse racks, and production areas while using technologies such as stand-up and sit-down forklifts, RF scanners, WMS, touchscreen computer systems, and FedEx shipping software. The dress code includes steel-toe shoes, long pants, and a plain t-shirt, with safety glasses provided by the employer. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of RICHMOND, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
