Job Description Director of Safety & Security Position Summary The Director of Safety Security provides leadership and strategic oversight for all safety, security, and emergency management operations across The Westchester campus. The Director ensures that all systems, personnel, and procedures are aligned with regulatory standards and the Corporation’s expectations for safety, professionalism, and service. This position is responsible for supervising the in-house security team, overseeing fire and life-safety systems, coordinating emergency preparedness, and maintaining compliance with applicable codes and standards. Essential Responsibilities Leadership & Staff Oversight • Supervise and schedule Access Control Officers and Switchboard Operators to ensure continuous campus coverage., • Recruit, train, and evaluate staff, establishing clear standards for conduct, incident reporting, and communication., • Coordinate quarterly performance reviews and ensure all required certifications and training are current. Security Operations • Manage and administer all physical security systems, including CCTV, access control, intercom, and alarm platforms., • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for access control, visitor management, and contractor entry., • Conduct and document investigations of incidents, complaints, and security violations, ensuring timely reporting to Management. Fire and Life Safety Oversight • Direct oversight for all fire alarm and life-safety systems, procedures, and related training., • Serve as liaison to the D.C. Fire Marshal’s Office and coordinate required inspections, testing, and evacuation drills., • Maintain documentation of all compliance activities, ensuring systems are operational and records auditable. Emergency Preparedness and Response • Develop and maintain the Corporation’s emergency response, evacuation, and continuity plans., • Coordinate and lead campus-wide drills, tabletop exercises, and After-Action Reviews (AARs). • Act as the primary liaison with law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical agencies. Training and Policy Development • Implement a structured training program consistent with The Westchester’s Security Program Framework., • Oversee required CPR/AED and first aid certification for all staff and ensure completion of annual refresher courses., • Develop and update written policies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations., • Provide safety and emergency procedure training to other departments as needed. Interdepartmental Coordination and Communication • Work collaboratively with Facilities, Human Resources, and Front Desk management to address operational and safety concerns., • Communicate with Member-Owners regarding safety and incident matters with professionalism and discretion., • Provide quarterly reports and updates to the General Manager | Chief Operating Officer, summarizing training compliance, incident trends, and improvement actions. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or related field, or equivalent experience., • Minimum seven years of progressive experience in security or safety management, preferably in a residential, institutional, or hospitality environment., • Strong working knowledge of access control, CCTV, and fire/life-safety systems., • Experience in supervision, budgeting, and policy implementation., • Certified in or able to obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid within 90 days of hire., • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage complex situations with discretion. Schedule and Evaluation Regular schedule Tuesday–Saturday, 12pm – 8pm., or as otherwise determined by Management. The Director’s performance will be evaluated annually by the General Manager | Chief Operating Officer based on program compliance, staff development, system readiness, and overall effectiveness in safeguarding The Westchester community.
