POSITION PURPOSE The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Communications and plays a critical role in developing, managing and executing key communications that support global organization initiatives, service innovations, press releases, campaigns, social media messaging, organizing interviews for executives and other employees within our agency. With direction, the Communications Manager will act as a project manager for the Public Affairs Department, by organizing, coordinating and managing the collective work of team members to deliver cohesive marketing strategies, communications and public relations results. The role's duty is to clarify the company's position regarding policies, operations and programs in effort to develop clear internal and external messaging. The position at times may act as a representative of IndyGo in media and before the public and will maintain positive stakeholder relationships. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES To succeed in this role, an individual must satisfactorily perform the functions listed below. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Oversees the implementation of cohesive company messaging throughout public relations, integrated marketing, communications, advertising and media for internal and external audiences., • Manages public affairs specialist who will perform duties consistent with writing, graphic design and internal communications., • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with partners, neighborhood leaders and stakeholders., • Coordinates media events or releases with IndyGo leadership, planning teams and operations., • Answers inquiries and addresses any record requests from media outlets., • Manages communications strategy and timelines to ensure efficient project implementation., • Serves as secondary media contact and develops messaging and logistics for additional IndyGo spokespeople as needed., • Creates and drafts strategy materials with intended company tone and pitch: presentations, talking points, etc., • Supports external and internal communications efforts during service interruptions, crises or emergencies., • Coordinates project-specific details with IndyGo staff related to external and internal affairs., • Responsible for managing specific initiatives as assigned to ensure a comprehensive communications plan., • Encourages adherence to consistent customer experience across all IndyGo departments., • Contributes to grant application content and submission processes. OTHER FUNCTIONS • Responsible for federal regulation adherence as it relates to public involvement practices specific to the public posting notice for meetings, Title VI equity analysis, etc., • Delegates responsibilities while overseeing projects or group work as necessary and appropriate., • Assist with volunteer coordination as projects or communication needs require., • Participates and contributes to various procurements., • Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES • The Communications Manager directly supervises one employee, the public affairs specialist., • Provides leadership, oversight and direction to direct report, including coaching, counseling, mentoring and developing the employee, with oversight of performance reviews and career development planning., • Empowers direct report to take responsibility for their job and goals, delegates responsibility appropriately and provides regular feedback and accountability., • Applies supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies and applicable laws., • Interviews, hires and trains employee; plans, schedules, assigns and directs work; evaluates and manages employee performance; addresses complaints and resolves employee issues. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the following education and/or experience. • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public administration, business administration, journalism, public relations or a related field is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience., • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in marketing, community relations or a related field with progressive responsibility required., • Valid driver's license required.
