Job Description TITLE: Senior Director of Strategy and Education REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer CLASSIFICATION: Full Time-Exempt ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Turning Point, Inc in Mount Clemens, MI is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Turning Point, Inc empowers survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking through comprehensive services and resources while advocating for community action to end oppression and violence. We offer emergency shelter, housing, advocacy/counseling, forensic nurse examiner program & first response advocacy services, 24-hour hotline, personal protection order assistance and legal advocacy, community education, and systems change. POSITION SUMMARY Community engagement and systems change are integral to achieving Turning Point’s mission and vision. To drive community action, the agency utilizes a blend of community presentations, prevention programming, information tables, volunteers and interns, social media, multidisciplinary teams, systems change advocacy, and policy advocacy to drive strategic change. The Senior Director of Strategy and Education is responsible for overseeing Turning Point’s training, outreach, and internal and external systems change initiatives. The Senior Director of Strategy and Education is also responsible for facilitating the agency’s Training Team and Systems Change Team and providing strategic support and coaching for agency staff. SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of Community Engagement and Education is responsible for hiring, training, developing, and supervising the Director of Community Engagement and Education and the Systems Change Advocate. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE The ideal candidate must have knowledge of survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and advocacy-based interventions with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking that are rooted in anti-oppression values and the empowerment model. Specific knowledge in education, training, systems change, organizational change, crisis intervention, trauma-informed practices, lethality assessments and safety planning are desired as are demonstrated success building teams, collaborating with peers, and solving problems. Candidates must also have knowledge of advocacy with survivors in various systems including healthcare, criminal justice, family court, child welfare, education, and human services. As our free, confidential services are inclusive and accessible to reflect all the unique needs and identities of those who have experienced domestic violence, sexual violence, or human trafficking, candidates must demonstrate the ability to work with all survivors and understand the unique barriers that survivors with intersecting oppressed identities will encounter. EDUCATION A Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field, or a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field combined with 5 to 8 years of equivalent experience, is required. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Implement agency and program mission, vision and anti-oppression and empowerment philosophies., • Administer and implement agency policies and procedures., • Maintain agency policy on confidentiality, record keeping and professional ethics., • Facilitate the agency training team that administers community-based training and information events., • Facilitate the agency systems change team that works with systems personnel to improve our community’s response to domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking., • Lead the agency’s policy advocacy efforts., • Track, measure, and report Turning Point’s policy advocacy and lobbying efforts according to agency policy and federal and state laws., • Oversee and provide strategic support to community education, outreach, prevention, and volunteer and intern programming., • Identify internal and external training programs to address competency gaps., • Organize and develop training to meet agency training needs and strengthen community partnerships., • Track, measure, and report on advocacy, outreach, and engagement outcomes., • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, and staff development of program staff, interns, and volunteers., • Co-facilitate and support the agency’s Sexual Assault Response Teams and Domestic Violence Lethality Team., • Execute agency strategy by facilitating the development of key initiatives, supporting departmental implementation of strategic priorities, and creating multidisciplinary coordinated community responses in alignment with the organization’s goals., • Serve as a thought leader and collaborator on the Management Team, working to solve problems across the agency, and improve services in the community., • Collaborate on the development and scheduling of social media for the agency., • Meet regularly with staff, interns, and volunteers for the purpose of staff development., • Demonstrate ability to provide confirming and corrective feedback for the goal of developing and enhancing staff skills., • Utilize program data for program improvement and staff education., • Knowledgeable about resources for staff development., • Review policies with staff and recommend updates and improvements when necessary., • Oversee the integrity of program data required for funding source’s program reports and program evaluation., • Monitor and ensure program purchases or use of petty cash by program staff, following finance policy and procedure., • Ability to set direction, delegate tasks and manage workflow to meet administrative needs., • Attend all departmental and agency staff meetings, and other meetings required by Turning Point., • Conduct relationships with colleagues to promote mutual respect, improvement of services, and problem-solving., • Notify the Chief Executive Officer of any emergency situations that may affect Turning Point staff and/or clients., • Must pass central registry and criminal background check as a condition of employment., • Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid Michigan Driver’s License and a good driving record., • Must have the ability to work with diverse populations., • Allow for flexibility in schedule, work location and job function., • Ability and willingness to be available for non-scheduled emergency call-in when necessary., • Ability to lift 20lbs.
