Job DescriptionSalary: Lead Superintendent Company: Powers & Sons Construction Location: Chicago, IL Department: Field Operations Position Summary Powers & Sons Construction is seeking an experienced Lead Superintendent to oversee and direct all field operations for construction projects. This leadership role is responsible for managing on-site construction activities, coordinating subcontractors and trades, ensuring quality workmanship, and maintaining safety standards. The Lead Superintendent serves as the primary liaison between the field and office teams, driving projects to successful completion on time and within budget. Key Responsibilities Project Leadership and Execution • Direct and supervise all on-site construction activities from groundbreaking to completion, • Manage daily field operations, workforce scheduling, and resource allocation, • Coordinate and schedule subcontractors and material deliveries, • Review plans, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure proper execution, • Conduct daily site inspections and quality control reviews, • Resolve field issues and make real-time decisions to keep projects on track, • Lead weekly project meetings with subcontractors and trade partners Safety and Compliance • Enforce and maintain strict adherence to OSHA regulations and company safety policies, • Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks, • Identify and mitigate jobsite hazards proactively, • Ensure all workers have proper PPE and safety training, • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites at all times, • Complete incident reports and safety documentation as required Quality Control and Documentation • Ensure all work meets project specifications, building codes, and quality standards, • Perform punch list inspections and coordinate corrections, • Document daily progress through reports, photos, and logs, • Track and report on project schedule and productivity, • Manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders in coordination with project management, • Maintain accurate as-built documentation Communication and Coordination • Serve as the primary point of contact for all field-related matters, • Communicate project status, issues, and solutions to project management team, • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, architects, inspectors, and trade partners, • Mentor and develop assistant superintendents and field staff, • Coordinate with estimating team on lessons learned and feedback Qualifications • High school diploma or GED required; degree in Construction Management or related field preferred, • 7+ years of construction experience with 3+ years in superintendent or leadership role, • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction methods, means, and techniques, • Strong understanding of construction documents, blueprints, and specifications, • Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and complex schedules, • OSHA 30-Hour certification required or must obtain within 90 days, • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, • Proficiency with construction management software and mobile technology, • Valid driver's license Physical Requirements • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, • Capable of walking job sites, climbing ladders, and navigating uneven terrain, • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, • Must be able to work extended hours as project demands require Compensation and Benefits Powers & Sons Construction offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package including annual bonus & profit sharing, health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, company vehicle or vehicle allowance, and professional development opportunities.
