Job DescriptionJob Title: Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler safely operates sit-down and stand-up forklifts to move materials between inventory, production lines, docks, and shipping areas. This role supports both production and warehouse operations by staging, stacking, and wrapping pallets, preparing products for shipment, and loading and unloading trucks. The position offers multiple shifts in a modern, temperature-controlled manufacturing environment with a strong focus on safety and organization. Responsibilities • Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts to move materials to and from production lines, inventory areas, and shipping docks., • Gather materials from inventory and deliver them to production lines according to schedule and instructions., • Transport finished goods from production lines to docks and from docks back to inventory as needed., • Stage, stack, and securely wrap pallets to prepare products for storage or shipment., • Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using a forklift and other material handling equipment., • Use RF scanners to track, locate, and update inventory and product movements accurately., • Support both production and warehouse/shipping areas, working approximately half the time in each environment., • Get products ready for shipment by verifying quantities, labeling, and ensuring proper pallet configuration., • Perform general material handling tasks including lifting, sorting, counting, and organizing products and supplies., • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, maintaining a clean and orderly work area., • Assist with packaging, picking, packing, batch mixing support, and staging activities as required., • Communicate with production and shipping teams to ensure timely and accurate movement of materials., • Multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy., • Participate in training and cross-training to support operations across different shifts and areas as needed.Essential Skills, • At least 2+ years of experience operating a sit-down forklift in a production or warehouse environment., • At least 2+ years of experience operating a stand-up forklift for the Alsip location., • Proficiency using RF scanners to track inventory and product movement., • Demonstrated ability to safely load and unload trucks using a forklift., • Experience with material handling, including lifting, sorting, counting, wrapping, and staging products., • Ability to perform repetitive motions and physical tasks associated with material handling., • Previous labor experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or similar environment., • Strong multi-tasking skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting., • Reliability and punctuality for assigned shift schedules., • Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Background in chemical, oil, or food manufacturing is a plus., • Experience with packaging, picking, packing, and batch mixing support is beneficial., • Comfort working in both production and warehouse/shipping areas., • Ability to work collaboratively with team members across different departments and shifts., • Willingness to train on different shifts and adapt to varying production demands.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in modern, temperature-controlled manufacturing and warehouse facilities. At the Alsip location, the facility is very clean, organized, and recently remodeled, with a smaller workforce of roughly 10–15 people on first shift and about half that on second shift. Operations are split between the production floor and the warehouse, with clearly organized inventory and supplies and a strong emphasis on safety. The Chicago Heights facility is larger and busier, with a workforce of a few hundred across shifts, more production lines, and higher overall volume. It is also temperature controlled, includes multiple break rooms, and has security checkpoints at the entrance. While not as new or organized as Alsip, it remains in good condition and follows the same operational focus: manufacturing products, bottling, staging, and shipping. The chemicals used at both sites are described as not harmful. The position supports multiple shifts: first shift from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, and third shift from 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights, with training provided. Work attire is typical for a production and warehouse environment, with a strong focus on safety and appropriate protective gear as required by site policies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alsip, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.25 - $18.35/hr.
