The role We are looking for a high performing, self-motivated and driven associate to join our established Commercial Disputes Practice to work across our national team, helping our clients resolve their disputes. The team's work includes advising a wide range of clients in the early stages of a potential dispute through to representing them in dispute resolution processes and final hearings, whether in the High Court, arbitration and other tribunals, mediation, and using ADR. Most of our cases have an international dimension. You will need to be able to form a clear view of the legal merits of a situation and formulate a strategy for resolving it. You will also be required to assist in developing the firm's contentious profile and use the firm's platform to continue developing your own personal brand, both externally and internally. The person • Qualified Solicitor, • Good academics, • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, • Good technical skills and ability, • A practical approach with an ability to seek creative and commercial solutions, • High quality analytical skills, • Incisive and clear-headed thinking, • Resilient under pressure, • Ability to make legal/commercial judgements and offer pragmatic and practical advice, • A systematic approach to work with effective time management, • Attention to detail, • Self-motivated, with common sense and initiative, • Good listening and questioning skills, • Interpersonal skills, including ability to influence and persuade, • Talent to build excellent relationships with clients and potential clients, • Good commercial awareness, business acumen and negotiating skills will be essential, • Presentation skills, • Business development appetite and skills, • Strategic and tactical skills, • Excellent written English for drafting purposes, • Good time and file management skills, • Organisational skills and ability to prioritise, • Excellent interpersonal and team skills, • A collaborative, can do attitude, • Preparedness to work across a range of firm sectors and markets The activities You will gain experience of the following: • Commercial contract disputes, • The Civil Procedure Rules and associated arbitration rules such as ICC, LCIA, etc. Experience of sports related regulations would be beneficial but is not a requirement, • Sale of business disputes (including fraud, indemnity, breach of warranty and earn-out disputes), • Shareholder and boardroom disputes, • Partnership and joint venture disputes, • Enforcement of restrictive covenants and confidentiality obligations, • Asset recovery, • Injunctions and other types of interim relief, • Preparing and negotiating high value and complex settlement agreements, • Working on litigious matters from pre-action through to trial, • Document heavy disclosure processes, • Mid-market businesses, • Owner managed businesses, • Cross border litigation, • International arbitration We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
