Role Overview Seeking a motivated Assistant EICA Engineer to join our growing team, delivering projects predominantly within the water, utilities, and infrastructure sectors. In this role, you will contribute to the design, specification, and delivery of electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems across treatment plants, pumping stations, control systems, and related infrastructure. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will support the development of safe and reliable power distribution, protection, monitoring, and instrumentation solutions throughout the project lifecycle-from concept and design through to commissioning and handover. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your technical and project delivery skills while gaining exposure to a wide range of engineering challenges. Collaboration is key: you will work closely with civil, mechanical, process, and control & instrumentation teams, as well as with construction, operations, and external stakeholders, to help deliver high-quality engineering solutions. Key Responsibilities • Assist in the development of electrical design deliverables, including power capacity assessments, single-line diagrams, distribution layouts, cable block diagrams, system architecture diagrams, telemetry requirements, and I/O lists., • Support the preparation and development of Control Philosophies and P&IDs., • Assist with MCC and control panel sizing and selection activities., • Contribute to the specification and selection of electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, motors and drives, MV/LV panels, MCCs, control panels, and distribution boards., • Undertake electrical load calculations and other engineering assessments under the guidance of senior engineers., • Support the preparation and review of technical specifications, procurement documentation, and vendor submissions., • Liaise with utility providers, contractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders as required., • Ensure designs and engineering activities comply with relevant standards, health & safety legislation, and regulatory requirements., • Assist with cost estimates, risk assessments, and change management activities throughout project delivery., • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors, and clients to deliver successful project outcomes., • Participate in site visits, surveys, commissioning activities, and technical inspections where required., • Continuously develop technical knowledge and industry awareness through project experience and professional development activities. Required Qualifications and Experience • Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline., • Working towards, or interested in pursuing, professional registration (e.g. EngTech, IEng, or CEng through the IET or equivalent professional institution)., • Experience in electrical engineering, whether gained through industry employment, placements, internships, apprenticeships, or academic projects., • Understanding of electrical engineering principles, including power distribution, electrical design, and/or control and instrumentation systems., • Awareness of relevant industry standards, regulations, and health & safety requirements., • Ability to prepare or contribute to technical drawings, schematics, calculations, and engineering documentation., • Understanding of LV electrical systems, with knowledge of MV systems considered advantageous., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to develop practical fault-finding and troubleshooting experience., • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams., • Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and work towards project deadlines., • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to site travel requirements).
