Project Manager – Civil Engineering / Infrastructure – Agency Opportunity Location: UK (Regional Projects) Job Type: Contract / Agency Hours: Full-time (45 hours per week) Duration: Long-term, secured work across major frameworks The Opportunity We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to join a leading UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor on a long-term agency basis. The business operates across major frameworks and delivers complex projects within water, transport, built environment, and energy sectors. This opportunity offers involvement in high-value infrastructure schemes, working with tier one clients and established delivery teams. The role provides long-term continuity of work and the chance to contribute to technically challenging and high-profile projects. The Role The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery of multiple projects from design phase through to completion and handover. You will ensure projects are delivered to the required quality, programme, and commercial performance, while maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, and client satisfaction. You will work closely with estimators, engineers, and commercial teams, ensuring efficient planning, coordination, and execution across all project stages. Key Responsibilities You will manage projects through all phases, including design, construction, and handover, ensuring all deliverables are completed in line with client requirements. You will produce financial forecasts, monitor project costs, and provide regular performance reports. You will review project progress, manage resources, and maintain construction programmes, ensuring alignment with overall delivery objectives. You will define and manage work packages, ensuring scope clarity and effective coordination across teams and subcontractors. You will chair site meetings, maintain accurate records, and ensure actions are tracked and delivered. You will develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners, while also identifying opportunities for new business and supporting tendering activities where required. You will lead site investigations and contribute to the development of practical and cost-effective engineering solutions. You will ensure the production and implementation of project plans, method statements, risk assessments, and procurement strategies in line with company procedures. You will maintain accurate site records, drive commercial performance, manage variations, and challenge costs to maximise project value. Health, Safety and Environmental You will provide leadership in health, safety, and environmental management, ensuring compliance with all legal and company standards. You will maintain up-to-date HSE documentation, allocate responsibilities across site teams, and ensure appropriate training and briefings are delivered. You will ensure subcontractors adhere to required standards and that environmental and waste management plans are implemented and maintained. You will liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards. Quality You will be responsible for managing quality assurance processes, including the production and sign-off of Inspection and Test Plans. You will ensure QA documentation is maintained, technical queries are resolved, and that all as-built information and handover documentation is completed accurately. Requirements Candidates should have strong experience managing civil engineering projects within sectors such as heavy civils, rail, water, or utilities. A degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent is required, along with a CSCS Manager’s card, SMSTS, and NEBOSH Construction Certificate. You should have a strong working knowledge of NEC contracts, including early warning and compensation events, along with experience in programme and risk management, cost control, and forecasting. Experience using Primavera P6 or similar planning software is expected. You will demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and team management skills, with the ability to influence, motivate, and mentor others. You should be confident in resolving technical challenges and managing projects with minimal supervision. Additional experience such as Temporary Works Coordinator, lifting operations, NRSWA, or working within rail environments is advantageous. Experience with Network Rail processes and design management, as well as the ability to undertake CRE responsibilities, would be beneficial. Project Scope Projects may include complex civil engineering works such as bridge structures, rail infrastructure, water assets, and utility schemes. The role may involve early contractor involvement, design development, procurement of specialist subcontractors, and delivery of complex temporary works.
