Stores Operator – MAT Cover\nLocation: Barnstone\nContract Type: Fixed‑term (Maternity Cover)\n\nRole Summary\n\nThis role is amaternity cover position within the Stores function at Barnstone.\nThe Stores Operator is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day warehouse and stores operations, ensuring accurate inventory management, coordinating the receipt of materials, and maintaining appropriate stock levels to support business operations.\n\nThe role plays a key part in supporting Maintenance and Production teams, while maintaining strong working relationships with suppliers and ensuring all activities are carried out safely, compliantly and efficiently during the MAT cover period.\n\nKey Tasks & Responsibilities\n\nHealth, Safety & Environment\n\nEnsure a safe working environment in line with Safe Working Practices (SWP), STOP assessments and company procedures.\nLead by example in maintaining high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.\nEnsure compliance with COSHH regulations, maintaining an up‑to‑date register, safety data sheets and correct storage, labelling and segregation of hazardous substances.\nSupport HAVS monitoring and reporting requirements.\nEnsure all waste materials are segregated, handled and removed from site in line with company and environmental regulations.\n\nStores & Inventory Management\n\nManage daily stores operations, including ordering stock for the works team and maintaining accurate stock levels within SAP.\nEnsure inventory performance targets, material availability and purchasing savings goals are achieved.\nCoordinate receipt of incoming materials and verify against purchase orders.\nAccurately record all goods issued within the inventory system in a timely manner.\nSupport annual stocktakes and report discrepancies as required.\nResolve inventory queries, including new stock records, minimum order levels, bin locations, and material amendments.\nManage and action obsolete items in line with company procedures.\nMaintain excellent housekeeping standards, including organisation, labelling, cleanliness and location accuracy.\n\nCommercial & Supplier Management\n\nEnsure commercial agreements with suppliers are adhered to and enhanced where possible.\nResolve supplier queries relating to routine orders and record issues via supplier performance reporting systems.\nMatch supplier invoices against purchase orders and goods received notes to ensure accurate receipting and on‑time payment.\nCollate and enter P‑Card / T‑Card information and manage invoicing for the Stores P‑Card.\n\nOperational Support\n\nLiaise closely with Maintenance and Production teams to ensure consumables, spares and critical stock items are available.\nCoordinate plant and equipment hire with site management.\nArrange servicing and maintenance of plant spares and equipment.\nConduct monthly inspections of first aid and spill kits to ensure compliance and readiness.\nOrder, issue and manage site PPE, including vending machine stock, washing and face‑fit testing requirements.Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge\n\nQualifications\n\nGood general standard of education\n\nExperience\n\nEssential: Administration experience\nEssential: Strong IT skills (MS Office, SAP)\nPreferred: Stores / warehouse experience\nAdvantageous: Experience within continuous‑process or heavy industry environments\nAdvantageous: Forklift licence\n\nSkills & Knowledge\n\nStrong health, safety and environmental awareness\nExcellent IT skills (SAP and Microsoft Office)\nStrong communication skills, both verbal and written\nHighly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively\nStrong problem‑solving capability\nHigh attention to detail and
