An award-winning nonprofit book publisher located in NYC’s Wall Street area, The New Press has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Development Assistant or Associate to be a key part of our development team. Job Summary: An immediate, full-time position reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Assistant or Associate provides administrative support for the department and works to help implement strategies that ensure the sustainability and organizational growth of The New Press. New Press staff currently work three days in the office and two days remotely. The successful candidate will have some previous exposure to development, an active interest in learning more about fundraising, and affinity for The New Press’s social justice mission. We are looking for a high-energy, dependable, team player who values the chance to work with an experienced and busy development department offering a bird’s-eye view of social justice fundraising. Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Development Assistant or Associate will: • Prepare and maintain the Development team’s meeting agendas, notes, and action items., • Ensure donor interactions, funds, and prospect information are properly captured as actionable institutional history in the organization’s database., • Research, draft memos, and help cultivate new and lapsed foundations and individual donors for unrestricted and restricted support, • Support the Chief Development Officer in liaising with the Board of Directors, including board meetings and outreach, • Schedule, coordinate, prepare for, attend, notate, and do follow-up for (as appropriate) external and internal meetings for the Executive Director, Chief Development Officer, and other senior staff involved in development, • Support the planning and execution of all aspects of development-related events, from smaller cultivation events to the organization’s gala., • Support the organization’s fundraising campaigns, including executing an outreach and follow up strategy, • Liaise between the development department, finance department, and other teams on grant and gift tracking, including with the monthly financial reconciliation process, • One to four years of directly related experience in the development department of a nonprofit organization. In select cases, we will consider candidates with highly relevant experience in an administration or operations role within nonprofit setting outside of development. All candidates must display a keen understanding of the dynamics of fundraising and how it supports and furthers a nonprofit mission, • Experience with Raisers Edge, Civi, and an aptitude for digital development and email communications tools., • Strong verbal and written communications skills., • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and motivated., • Superb administrative and project coordination skills, • Comfort with budgets and revenue tracking, • Ability to manage multiple work projects, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, • Flexibility, and ability to navigate participating in different team environments., • Discretion and sensitivity in handling and safeguarding confidential information, • Passion for books and engagement with progressive social change movements, • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Compensation & Benefits: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
