POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a Master-level Lead Diesel Service Technician who combines exceptional technical expertise with proven leadership abilities. This is a pivotal role where you'll provide direction, technical guidance, and mentorship to shop personnel while performing advanced diagnostics and complex repairs on gas and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. You'll be the torque wrench-wielding expert who keeps our customers' fleets moving smoothly while fostering a culture of efficiency, quality workmanship, and outstanding customer service. WHAT YOU WILL DO Advanced Technical Responsibilities: • Diagnose and repair gas and diesel engines, advanced fuel systems, electrical and computer systems, OBD II systems, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brake components, air conditioning, suspension, driveline components, and exhaust systems, • Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, transmission service, and comprehensive vehicle inspections, • Conduct advanced diagnostics using engine diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and technical software, • Perform complex repairs including engine overhauls, transmission rebuilds, electrical troubleshooting, and hydraulic system repairs, • Troubleshoot and repair specialized equipment including generators, onboard computer systems, and hybrid systems, • Execute custom fabrication and welding tasks for equipment design and broken component repair, • Perform road tests and quality control checks to verify all repairs meet specifications, • Coordinate with vendors and parts suppliers to ensure timely availability of components, • Complete accurate documentation on all repair orders, parts used, and vehicle history records Leadership & Mentorship Responsibilities: • Supervise shop productivity and provide work direction to technician team, • Orient, train, and mentor junior technicians in diagnostic procedures, repair techniques, and best practices, • Conduct quality control checks on all team work and provide constructive feedback, • Assist with scheduling repairs and maintenance to optimize shop workflow, • Contribute to maintaining positive shop morale through fair work distribution and effective coaching, • Act as primary assistant to manager in assigning and directing shop personnel, • Lead by example in demonstrating professional excellence, safety compliance, and customer service, • Champion continuous improvement discussions and problem-solving sessions, • Identify and communicate shop tool and equipment needs to leadership Operational & Safety Responsibilities: • Maintain parts and supply inventories in accordance with company guidelines, • Ensure all shop equipment, tools, and supplies are in good working order, • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards, • Dispose of all fluids safely and in accordance with EPA and local regulations, • Lead responsibility for OSHA, EPA, and safety compliance in conjunction with shop manager, • Implement and enforce all company SOPs to ensure compliance with standards, • Report theft, damage, or safety concerns to management immediately, • Enforce all company policies and procedures related to employee and customer conduct, • May assist General Manager with HR compliance, training requirements, and administrative duties Customer Service: • Deliver exceptional service through clear communication and expert problem-solving, • Explain technical diagnoses and repair recommendations to non-technical customers, • Build and maintain strong customer relationships focused on trust and satisfaction, • Partner with service advisors to ensure clarity, accuracy, and customer confidence MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience & Certifications: • High School Diploma/GED and 7+ years of hands-on diesel mechanic experience (or 5+ years with technical degree/certification), • Possess or obtain Master Level ASE certifications (company pays all test fees and provides bonuses for passed tests), • Valid Driver's License required; CDL strongly preferred, • Current DOT Annual Inspector certification required, • A/C and Brake certifications required, • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment., • Current valid DOT medical card (or ability to pass DOT physical), • Must be at least 21 years of age (DOT interstate commerce requirement) Technical Skills: • Advanced diagnostic abilities using scan tools, Ohmmeters, and technical software, • Expert-level knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems, • Skilled in brake systems, suspension/alignment, HVAC, and driveline components, • Proficiency with welders, torches, plasma cutters for fabrication work, • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints, • Experience with multiple vehicle applications from light-duty to Class A heavy trucks, • Proven troubleshooting skills for complex mechanical and electrical issues Leadership & Communication: • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience, • Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical information clearly, • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities, • Customer service-oriented mindset, • Self-starter who embraces change and leads teams constructively Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds (tools, equipment, parts), • Stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear for extended periods, • Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb, • Enter and exit vehicles frequently and safely, • Work in environments that may be hot, cold, noisy, wet, with fumes or odors, • Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmissions, • Must own tools to complete daily tasks Other Requirements: • Reliable attendance—regular, full attendance is essential, • Detail-oriented with strong quality focus, • Ability to work safely in fast-paced environment, • Must successfully complete DOT pre-employment background screening WHAT WE OFFER Compensation & Performance: • Competitive Pay: $32.00 - $48.00+ per hour based on experience, certifications, and productivity, • Performance-based earning potential that rewards efficiency and expertise Benefits: • Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday;
