About the Position The Corporate Controller will join a retail-based organization operating across multiple legal entities with meaningful transaction volume, intercompany activity, and tight operational rhythms. This accounting leader will report to the Chief Financial Officer, and will serve as a key partner across Finance, Operations, and Legal for compliance, audit readiness, and financial reporting integrity. The Controller will lead a team of roughly 15 professionals, commonly including an experienced Accounting Manager and teams supporting general ledger, technical accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and entity accounting. The Corporate Controller will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area, a region that blends high-quality neighborhoods with easy access to outdoor recreation, dining, and weekend destinations. Primary Responsibilities The Corporate Controller will own the month-end close and elevate the accounting function through disciplined execution, strong controls, and people-first leadership. • Lead and develop a team of approximately 15 across Corporate Accounting, Technical Accounting, and Financial Accounting, building a high-trust culture of accountability, coaching, and continuous improvement, • Own the monthly close across multiple entities, including consolidations, intercompany eliminations, reconciliations, and period-end reporting with a high standard for accuracy and timeliness, • Drive NetSuite-based close excellence by strengthening close calendars, checklists, approval workflows, and audit-ready support tied to the general ledger, • Oversee compliance and controllership governance, including accounting policies, internal controls, external audit coordination, and financial statement integrity, • Confidently manage scrutiny related to legal entities, intercompany activity, and technical conclusions, ensuring documentation and support are decision-ready, • Communicate financial issues through cash flow and liquidity, not just P&L, focusing on sources and uses of cash, timing of inflows and outflows, and entity-level working capital drivers, • Evaluate leverage and financial risk by monitoring debt ratios, covenant compliance, and the ability to service debt, translating implications clearly for executive and operational stakeholders, • Partner cross-functionally with operations to ensure operational accounting realities are captured cleanly, especially where retail activity, inventory, and margin drivers impact results, • CPA or Certified Public Accountant credential strongly preferred, with strong GAAP and Financial Accounting fundamentals, • Approximately 8 to 12 years of progressive experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, Accounting Director, or similar corporate accounting leadership path, • Proven success leading multi-entity close, consolidation, and intercompany accounting in an environment where deadlines and accuracy both matter, • NetSuite experience strongly preferred, including month-end close controls, reporting, and multi-entity functionality, • Confident people leader who can guide an experienced team with clarity, decisiveness, and credibility, • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain cash flow, liquidity, leverage, and covenant-related topics to non-accounting stakeholders, • Competitive base compensation with performance-based incentive opportunity, • Comprehensive benefits package, typically including medical, dental, and vision options, • Retirement savings plan options, • Paid time off and company holidays, • Hybrid work arrangement to support collaboration and flexibility for the Corporate ControllerIf this Corporate Controller role matches your background, apply today or reach out to connect with an LHH Recruiter to learn more about the team, priorities, and what success looks like in the first 90 days for the Corporate Controller.
