The Wine Manager plays a critical leadership role in curating and overseeing the hotel’s wine program across outlets, private dining, and events. This individual is responsible for delivering an exceptional guest experience through strategic wine selection, cellar management, team education, and service excellence while supporting the hotel’s luxury positioning and culinary vision. Requested Tasks • Curate, maintain, and elevate master wine lists across all outlets in alignment with The Joseph’s luxury brand standards and culinary philosophy, • Lead seasonal wine menu updates and develop thoughtful pairings that complement evolving culinary offerings, • Oversee all wine inventory management, purchasing, receiving, storage, and cellar organization, • Source and evaluate wines from domestic and international producers while maintaining strong vendor relationships, • Monitor industry trends, emerging regions, and guest preferences to ensure a dynamic and competitive wine program, • Collaborate closely with culinary and Food & Beverage leadership on wine pairings, specialty offerings, and guest experience, • Maintain an active and visible floor presence to engage guests, elevate service experiences, and drive wine sales, • Provide elevated tableside wine service and personalized recommendations tailored to guest preferences, • Create memorable guest interactions through storytelling, education, and luxury hospitality, • Lead and support wine dinners, tastings, activations, and VIP experiences, • Identify opportunities to increase beverage revenue while maintaining exceptional guest satisfaction, • Develop and execute ticketed wine classes, tastings, and educational experiences for guests, • Conduct engaging in-house wine education sessions designed to elevate staff wine knowledge, confidence, and salesmanship, • Train restaurant and banquet teams on wine service standards, pairings, varietals, and guest engagement techniques, • Foster a culture of learning, curiosity, and continuous improvement within the Food & Beverage team Requested Capabilities • 3–5+ years of wine leadership experience in a luxury hotel, fine dining restaurant, or upscale hospitality environment, • Advanced wine knowledge required; sommelier certification preferred (CMS, WSET, or equivalent), • Strong understanding of global wine regions, varietals, vintages, and pairing principles, • Experience managing wine inventory, purchasing, and beverage cost controls, • Proven success driving wine sales and enhancing guest engagement through floor presence and service, • Experience leading wine classes, tastings, or educational programming preferred, • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and guest engagement skills, • Professional, polished, and service-oriented demeanor, • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as business demands require, • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift, • Must be able to lift and carry wine cases and beverage inventory up to 50 pounds, • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and navigate cellar/storage areas safely, • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including wine storage environments, • Must possess visual acuity to inspect labels, presentation standards, and inventory details As part of Makeready, we offer a benefits experience designed with intention—supporting the full life of our team, not just their time at work.
