Position Information: NWHSU is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Pre-Health Academic Advisor to support students in our Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health (PBPH) program as they prepare for admission to professional schools in fields such as medicine (MD), physician assistant (PA), physical therapy (PT), chiropractic (DC), and dentistry. This role involves providing comprehensive academic and professional advising, guiding students through coursework selection, application strategies, and long-term career planning to enhance their readiness and competitiveness for health professional programs. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and collaborator, who is committed to the success of students achieving their professional goals. Work Location: Bloomington, MN with flexibility to work 3-4 days per week remotely; must live local and be able to come to campus as needed. Duties: • Conduct intake advising for prospective students by evaluating prior academic work and relevant experience to determine program eligibility for our PBPH program and alignment with professional goals., • Assist prospective and current students in identifying and planning prerequisite coursework tailored to the admissions requirements of various health professional schools., • Communicate program curriculum, policies, and pathways to prospective students through one-on-one meetings, presentations, and email correspondence, • Stay up-to-date on admissions requirements and emerging trends in health professions education through continuous professional development and engagement with the field., • Provide individualized academic advising to enrolled students, supporting their progress toward meeting prerequisites for graduate-level health professions programs., • Advise students on appropriate course selection and preparation strategies for standardized entrance exams such as the MCAT, GRE, and DAT., • Assist with course registration as needed to ensure students are enrolled in the appropriate classes for their academic plans., • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student advising sessions, academic progress, and intake evaluations in accordance with institutional standards., • Participate in recruitment events, orientation sessions, and campus programming., • Collaborate closely with Admission team to support a seamless transition from inquiry to enrollment., • Master's degree, required, • Doctorate degree, preferred. (Preference given to those with graduate degree in physical/biological sciences.), • 2 years experience in advising, admissions counseling, or related work in higher education, • Knowledge of admissions requirements and prerequisite coursework for a range of health professions programs, including but not limited to medicine (MD), physician assistant (PA), physical therapy (PT), dentistry, and chiropractic., • Proven ability to analyze complex academic and career information and guide students toward appropriate and strategic pathways for success., • Genuine interest in supporting and empowering students as they explore and pursue careers in the health professions., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders. Compensation: $54,000-$67,000 The hiring rate is determined by a combination of education, related professional experience, and internal equity considerations and may exceed the posted range.
