This position is with PMAR - Palacios Marine Agricultural Research, Inc., an independent nonprofit organization located within one of our managed properties. Our company, Quincy Management, provides HR support to PMAR and is managing this recruitment process on their behalf. Job Summary: The Assistant Hatchery Manager supports the Hatchery Manager in overseeing daily hatchery, nursery, and facility operations at Palacios Marine Agricultural Research (PMAR). This role assists in achieving production, research, and restoration objectives while ensuring biosecurity, larval health, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The position requires hands-on aquaculture expertise, leadership capability, and adaptability in a fast paced, outdoor hatchery environment. Supervisory Responsibilities: • Assists the Hatchery Manager in overseeing hatchery and nursery personnel., • Provides day-to-day operational guidance and work direction to assigned staff., • Supports training, coaching, and performance feedback for hatchery employees., • Assists with scheduling and coordination of shift-based work., • Escalates performance, safety, or conduct concerns to the Hatchery Manager in accordance with company policy. Duties/Responsibilities: • Support oversight of daily hatchery, nursery, algae, and facility operations., • Assist in achieving production, research, and oyster restoration objectives., • Monitor larval health, broodstock condition, and nursery system performance., • Support implementation and maintenance of biosecurity protocols., • Assist with broodstock conditioning, larval culture, nursery systems management, and algae production., • Help ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and permitting requirements., • Assist with equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, including pumps, plumbing, and electrical systems., • Support data collection, recordkeeping, and reporting using spreadsheets and related software. Participate in public outreach, research projects, and field trials as assigned., • Work flexible and rotating shift schedules as required by operations., • Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: • Recirculating and flow-through systems, • Algal and larval culture methods, • Broodstock management and husbandry, • Nursery systems management and husbandry, • Equipment maintenance requirements, • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills., • Ability to train, mentor, and support staff., • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills., • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs., • Proficiency with Google Sheets, Microsoft Office Suite, or related data capture software. Willingness to work hands-on in wet, dirty, and physically demanding conditions. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology or a related natural resources field required. • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience working in a hatchery, marine laboratory, or shellfish husbandry environment., • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity., • Experience with pumps, plumbing, and/or electrical systems strongly preferred.
