Job Description Work Location Federal Medical Center-Carswell 1200 Meandering Road Fort Worth, TX 76114 Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen. Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Period of Performance: Day of award for 120 days, with another 120-day option. Estimate Pay Range: $29.38 – $48.56 per hour, depending on experience and location of services. Benefits Offered: Health/Dental and Vision Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, which starts accruing on the day of hire. Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, which starts occurring on the day of hire. Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays. Summary of Services The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide Services within the Health Services Department, Federal Medical Center-Carswell (FMC-Carswell), which consists of the following locations: Inpatient Unit (NCC 1/2), Specialty Care Clinic, Outpatient Clinic (OPC), Mental Health Units (M1, M2, M3), and the Administrative Unit. All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Registered Nurse services, and in compliance with all Federal and State policies and regulations. The contractors shall adhere to all standards and regulations of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions (AIC). Working Hours The Registered Nurses' rotational working hours (shifts) may include the following. Total Nursing hours will not exceed 40 hours per week: • 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM Shift, • 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM Shift, • 5:30 AM to 6:00 PM Shift, • Week One Required Coverage Days:, • Sunday, • Wednesday, • Thursday, • Week Two Required Coverage Days:, • Monday, • Tuesday, • Friday The Registered Nurse is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved, must be navy blue). The Registered Nurses are prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type, as this is the color of clothing the AIC wears. The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing. Qualifications • Graduate of an Accredited Nursing School/Program., • Current, active, and unrestricted license to practice nursing in the State of Texas., • Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association., • Providing direct patient care, which includes taking and recording patient history, vital signs, making appointments, and assisting staff clinicians in routine clinical activities in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards., • Performing related duties as required, but accepts only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his or her educational preparation, training, experience, and nursing licensure laws., • Drawing and processing blood from patients for analysis or other medical purposes. Performing venipuncture, including the process of starting/completing intravenous lines., • Ensuring all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored, and disposed of according to institutional and national policy., • Collecting and processing urinalysis and point-of-care tests in the lab., • Screening eye and auditory exams and assisting advanced practice providers and physicians in minor surgical cases., • Operating of EKG machines, blood pressure machines, cardiac monitors, glucometers,, • thermometers, automatic external defibrillators, and other special medical apparatuses and equipment within the Health Services Department., • Assisting staff clinicians and clinical specialty consultants in the management and coordination of patient flow through the Specialty Care Clinic, Ambulatory Clinic, Telemedicine clinic and Mental Health Unit., • Assisting the Infectious Disease Coordinator with PPD planting/reading and recording of results, Covid-19 testing, and immunizations., • Assisting with completing In-Transit medical record forms., • Assisting providers in the urgent care areas during emergencies, as necessary, including triaging., • Must be able to assess a patients condition on an ongoing basis and appropriately select the standing orders to be followed, as well as refer patients to the appropriate medical practitioner., • Identifying changes in their condition and taking appropriate action., • Evaluating the effectiveness of interventions, monitoring, and documenting progress toward identified goals, and reporting information to the multi-disciplinary team for use in re-evaluating the plan of care., • Securing a health history and records/documents findings of patient care activities on appropriate records., • Must complete medical record documentation in an accurate, well-organized, legible, and timely manner. Communicating critical information to his/her supervisor or to staff at the local hospital., • Knowledge in the recognition of life-threatening emergencies and in initiating immediate care., • Developing a nursing assessment for each patient, to include planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. Assessing and identifying high-risk symptoms/behaviors in patients, to include suicidal risk, homicidal risk, and risk for verbal/physical abuse., • Monitoring, evaluating, and revising the care plan as needed. Assessing and documenting discharge planning for a patient's needs., • General administrative duties, including answering the phone, pulling, filing, and copying medical records, requesting and scanning medical records, data collection/organization, and maintaining supplies/equipment in all patient care areas., • Managing daily sick call log, tracking scheduled appointments, and assisting in locating patients who fail to show up on time to appointments., • Will utilize the Bureau Electronic Medical Records (BEMR) system for documentation. Implementing established protocols and standing orders for handling AIC complaints and initiating emergency care as needed according to community standards., • Adhering to infection control policies and procedures., • Administering treatment and procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety, and comfort., • Administering medications, including vaccinations, and ensuring cleanliness and resupply of pill line areas, and documenting in the BEMR Medication Administration Record (MAR) when completed.
