Job Description Everywai is a Cleveland-based AI software company pioneering “technology crafted with intention.” Our mission is to elevate human capabilities through careful craftsmanship and rigorous simplicity, focusing on building products that enhance lives through unobtrusive intelligence. Our flagship product is Velora, the first AI-powered Bible app that follows live sermons, surfaces relevant scripture passages in real time, and empowers deeper spiritual growth for churchgoers. Velora is a first-to-market innovation grounded in human-centered design and technical excellence. Role Overview Join Everywai’s core engineering team to architect and scale the backend for Velora’s next generation of spiritual engagement tools—all from wherever you call home. As a senior backend engineer, you will play a central role in developing, evolving, and scaling our proprietary Relay Engine (real-time sermon/audio analysis) and our Sync Engine (keeping clients in perfect sync with backend infrastructure in real-time). These are mission-critical components that power Velora’s unique, interactive experiences for users everywhere. Key Responsibilities * Architect and implement scalable backend services using TypeScript, GraphQL, and WebSocket on AWS. * Drive the development and optimization of Velora’s Relay Engine and Sync Engine powering real-time sermon processing, live updates, and seamless client-server synchronization. * Lead infrastructure reliability, security, and system performance initiatives (PostgreSQL with Prisma ORM, Redis, AWS Copilot/ECS). * Uphold high standards of code quality, business logic design, and maintainability. * Integrate cutting-edge AI services (OpenAI, natural language processing), 3rd-party APIs, and observability tooling. * Make strategic architectural decisions (service abstractions, schema/version management, WebSocket protocols, etc.). * Develop and enforce comprehensive backend testing (integration, E2E, CI/CD via GitHub Actions). * Collaborate with product and mobile teams to deliver complex features (real-time audio transcription, sermon outlining, analytics). * Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues including scaling, networking, and observability. Qualifications * 7+ years software engineering experience, with 5+ years in TypeScript/Node.js in production backends. * Advanced experience building GraphQL APIs (Nexus schema-first a plus). * Mastery of PostgreSQL (Prisma experience preferred), Redis, and scalable caching. * Strong cloud-native skills (AWS, Docker) and CI/CD best practices. * Proven ability to build and maintain real-time data streams (WebSocket/Socket.io/etc). * Familiar with secure cloud architectures. * Bonus: Experience with AI/ML APIs, real-time media (speech/audio), or faith/nonprofit tech. * Values-driven, autonomous, and strong communicator. Position Details * Fully remote—work from anywhere in the U.S. * Part-time or contractor role. * Competitive compensation (hourly or retainer, with equity/options considered for exceptional candidates). * Collaborative, high-trust culture focused on craftsmanship and impact.
