Job Description ChicagoCAC employees are expected to perform their job duties and act in a manner consistent with the Core Values of the organization. Responsibility Summary: The Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC) leads the strategy, planning, and execution of all internal and external communications for Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (ChicagoCAC). This role is responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communications policies, procedures, and brand standards that elevate the organization’s visibility, reinforce its mission, build trust in its brand, and strengthen stakeholder engagement. As a key member of the Development and Marketing leadership team, the DMC also oversees fundraising communications, media relations, and crisis communications. Primary Responsibilities: Strategic Communications & Brand Leadership • Directs and oversees the implementation of communications and marketing strategies, ensuring consistency, effectiveness, and alignment with Chicago CAC’s brand and mission., • Establishes the vision for brand alongside executive leadership, • Sets graphic design standards to ensure consistency across publications, announcements, collateral, digital media, social platforms, and video., • Develops, strategizes, and maintains the external website, ensuring information accuracy and alignment with organizational priorities., • Leads strategic advertising and public relations efforts in collaboration with executive leadership., • Safeguards and promotes ChicagoCAC’s reputation through crisis communications planning and execution, ensuring timely, accurate, and compassionate messaging that protects the organization’s reputation and reinforces trust among stakeholders. Content, Media, and Campaign Management • Oversees timely production of print and digital media and manages the external calendar., • Navigates storytelling efforts and supports content curation that highlights client, partner and community voices in partnership with the Marketing and Communications Specialist., • Manages media requests, writes press releases, organizes media coverage for key events, and responds to press inquiries—particularly those of a sensitive nature., • Implements internal communications strategies to foster transparency, alignment, and staff engagement across departments in partnership with department leads., • Prepares and maintains branding assets, images, and video libraries for organizational and press use., • Cultivates strong relationships with local and national reporters, editors, and media outlets to proactively secure press coverage and elevate ChicagoCAC’s visibility through strategic media placements., • Oversees metrics reporting and data analysis, using analytics tools to track engagement, trends, and communications effectiveness. Team & Project Oversight • Oversees communication vendor and internal partnerships to align content strategies with departmental goals., • Supervises Marketing and Communications Specialist, interns, and volunteers, and manages departmental budget and spending. Provides guidance, support, and performance feedback to ensure high-quality execution of campaigns and alignment with organizational priorities., • Champions professional growth and mentorship for communications team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning, skill development, and collaborative excellence., • Directs a portfolio of communications projects, managing scope, timeline, and risk., • Serves in an “on call” capacity and is expected to be available for urgent work-related communications., • Performs related duties as assigned. Discretion The DMC has a high-level range of discretion and independent decision-making. Supervisory Responsibilities The DMC has the following direct reports: Marketing and Communications Specialist. Relationships The DMC works closely with the Chief Development and Marketing Officer, leadership and members of the Development and Marketing Team, as well as agency leadership. Qualifications Minimum educational requirement of a bachelor’s degree. At least 8 years of experience in Communications and Marketing, with at least 3 years in managing teams required. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, with a willingness to learn and adapt in an ever-changing environment. Must possess excellent management skills, professional written and verbal skills, including report writing and presentation and organizational skills.
