Position Overview: The Senior Buyer will be a critical part of the procurement team, responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, equipment, and services for large infrastructure projects based in Africa. While the role is based in London, the successful candidate will be tasked with coordinating procurement activities across the United Kingdom, Europe, and African countries. The Senior Buyer will ensure that the supply chain is robust, cost-effective, and aligned with the requirements of our ongoing and future projects in Africa. Key Responsibilities: • Procurement Strategy & Planning:, • Develop and implement comprehensive procurement strategies tailored to support projects in Africa., • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and finance teams to align procurement activities with project goals, timelines, and budget constraints., • Conduct supplier market analysis and identify opportunities for cost optimization and process improvements. Supplier Management: • Identify, evaluate, and build strong, long-term relationships with suppliers and subcontractors in the United Kingdom, Europe, and worldwide., • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure quality, timely delivery, and cost-effective solutions for African infrastructure projects., • Monitor supplier performance, ensuring that the suppliers meet contractual obligations and quality standards, and implement corrective actions when necessary. Sourcing & Contract Negotiation: • Lead sourcing efforts for materials, equipment, and services required for the projects, focusing on cost-effectiveness, quality, and compliance with regulations., • Manage the full contract lifecycle, from initial negotiations to execution, ensuring contracts align with project specifications and company policies., • Mitigate procurement risks associated with sourcing and logistics in regions with dynamic market conditions., • Risk Management & Compliance:, • Identify procurement risks related to the unique challenges of sourcing for projects in Africa, including logistics, currency fluctuations, regulatory compliance, and political factors., • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure that procurement activities meet deadlines and budget constraints., • Ensure all procurement practices comply with legal, ethical, and company standards. Collaboration with Project Teams: • Work closely with project teams in Africa, ensuring that procurement activities are integrated into the overall project plan., • Collaborate with finance, legal, engineering and logistics departments to address procurement-related issues, ensuring seamless project execution. Market Research & Supplier Intelligence: • Continuously research the global market, identifying emerging trends, technologies, and suppliers that can bring value to the company’s infrastructure projects in Africa., • Develop strategies for sourcing from other markets when viable, while also leveraging suppliers from the UK and Europe., • Logistics & Supply Chain Management:, • Coordinate with Logistics and delivery schedules for materials and equipment to ensure that procurement processes align with project timelines., • Liaise with the Logistics teams to address challenges related to cross-border logistics, including customs, transportation, and supply chain disruptions, particularly in African regions., • Reporting & Documentation:, • Maintain detailed procurement records and reports to track purchases, supplier performance, and project costings., • Provide regular updates and procurement insights to senior management regarding the status of procurement activities, budgets, and potential risks or challenges. Key Skills & Experience: • Education & Qualifications:, • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field., • Professional certifications in procurement (e.g., CIPS, MCIPS) are highly desirable., • Experience:, • Minimum of 5-7 years of procurement experience, preferably within the EPC+F sector, and ideally in the infrastructure or construction industry., • Proven experience in sourcing materials, services, and equipment for projects based in Africa or other emerging markets., • Strong track record in managing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts within international, multi-region environments. Skills: • Exceptional negotiation skills with the ability to drive value for the company while managing supplier relationships and contracts., • Strong understanding of procurement processes, market conditions, and supplier management in both developed and emerging markets., • In-depth knowledge of procurement software and systems, as well as proficiency in MS Office Suite., • Understanding of logistics and supply chain management, especially for international and cross-border projects.
