He has 24 hour 1:1 support and for some activities 2:1 (like visiting the pool, special needs bike club, visiting the park or visiting shops and cafes). About the Teen: He is a friendly, non verbal, very autistic boy with severe epilepsy, a movement disorder and additional health needs. he is non verbal and can walk only with support. He needs help with all elements of his daily life. He does like to be active (but not in an athletic way) and he loves to be entertained. But he also often also needs a lot of care as he can have seizures which lead to him needing to spend time in hospital. His team of support workers / carers help him with his daily life & routine which includes supporting and facilitating access to activities and community, help him with learning more self help skills and communication, all of his personal care, help with his laundry and keep his environment clean & tidy. About you: This job will suit someone with good experience supporting a young person with disability and autism and has a real interest in disability and autism. You are not afraid to learn care elements like catheterisation and dealing with PEG and Peristeen (ideally you have experience already and other elements of care - otherwise we train you). But this is not just about care but also very much about support and we would like to find someone who can be active, fun and shows initiative. You need to be following the behaviour plan which would explain to you. This could potentially suit a student of a related field as a part time position (but a full time position is also available). You need to be able to swim - this is important to him. Ideally you are a non-smoker / non vaper. I am a 23 year old, chatty and friendly young man with Muscular Dystrophy and a full time electric wheelchair user. I am looking for a reliable, dedicated person to support me to attend work for approximately 29-32 hours per week. Days required are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and hours are generally between 9.30 – 5.30 with slight variations each day. These hours apply during term time, altnerative varied hours can be offered during non term time. I am based in East Peckham (Kent) and work in Orpington, so you must be able to get to my home base easily. The role will require you to drive my WAV van, so a full clean driving licence is essential, and you will need to be over 25 due to insurance restrictions. There may also be an opportunity to work additional hours on a Wednesday evening or at a weekend to support me to attend social activities. I will need you to be able to support me with any tasks I need whilst at work (I will direct as necessary) and this will require you to attend my personal care needs, as required. Previous experience of care would be beneficial, specifically supporting a wheelchair user, however full training will be given to suit my particular circumstances. Non smoker preferred due to my work being within a school. Rate of pay is £12 per hour, 5.6 weeks statutory holiday entitlement (pro rata) and access to NEST pension scheme. Responsibilities - Working closely with the Management team and outside - agencies to ensure the young people receive the best possible care. - Working with all levels of the Staff Team providing supervision, ongoing training and leading shifts when required. - Develop and update a range of paperwork, including Care Plans, Behaviour Support Plans and Risk Assessments. - Running the home in the absence of the Registered Manager. - Build trusting and lasting relationships with young people offering them unconditional dignity and respect. - Continually maintaining accurate and clear record keeping. - Meeting the physical, emotional, behavioural and cultural needs of the young people and reviewing/recording any amendments to identified needs. - Provide encouragement to all young people to work towards achieving their goals. - Provide security and safety to young people. - Actively contributing to the development of the team. Experience or Qualifications Required - NVQ Level 3 or equivalent within Children & Young People. Willing to work towards an NVQ Level 5 in Residential Childcare. - Experience working with children/young people in a Residential Childcare setting, for at least three years - Experience in a supervisory capacity as a Senior or Deputy Manager for at least one year. - Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to disseminate information. - Experience of leading staff and decision making in a residential setting to ensure the best care for our young people, including staff reviews, supervision and professional development. - Ability to deal with conflict/crisis situations effectively and in a therapeutic manner when managing both young people and staff. - Flexible and responsive in order to meet the needs of our young people which can change day to day. - A genuine passion for care and to be motivated by contributing to the progression of others. - A strong team player. - Knowledge of the Children's Home Regulations and Ofsted Requirements. - Resilience to keep going at difficult times and to ask for support if needed. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Computer literacy and an eye for detail. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Managing young people living in semi-independent accommodation. • Responsible for structuring key work sessions consistent with an independent placement agreement (IPA) and ant care / support plans. • Develop a structured programme of key work sessions based upon the young person’s individual support needs and focused on developing their self-confidence, resilience and self-esteem and independence. • Complete full induction of new residents and support the young person in settling within the community and accessing local resources. • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of each young person and that safeguarding procedures are followed throughout their care at Eleven D’s. • Maintain the confidentiality of young people and report any concerns regarding the young person’s welfare, missing episodes etc to your line manager once the Emergency Duty Team (EDT) and police have been contacted if needs be. • Assist the young person to engage with everyday living and develop skills where necessary by supporting their identified needs. • Provide support to young people with budgeting money, grocery shopping and administer a weekly subsistence allowance. 1 • Encourage and support young people in accessing education, employment or training as well as supporting them with the application process. • Encourage the young person to engage and take part in positive activities within the community, building on relationships and developing social networks. • Maintain accurate records, files, log keeping and all other required paperwork and administrative requirements. • Maintain petty cash and receipts for each expenditure. • To maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the Home, reporting all repair issues and ensuring the environment is always welcoming for the young people. • You will be responsible to carry out daily / weekly Health and Safety checks within the building. You must record and report any repair work or damage to the property to ensure it is kept to a high standard. • Promote safe, consistent and understandable boundaries with young people in conjunction with a 'Young Person’s Agreement’, Support Plan and House Rules. • Prepare detailed high-quality monthly progress reports regarding each young person’s progress which is submitted to the placing authority within deadlines. • Work in partnership with social workers other agencies and to encourage and support the young people to attend meetings with other professionals. • Attend admission and planning meetings, and attend Looked after Children Reviews ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed. • Mandatory attendance and participation in team meetings and training sessions as and when required. • Mandatory attendance and participation in structured supervision sessions at least once a month.
