Piping Designer \n\nLocation: Remote with occasional visits to project office in London, Manchester, Newcastle or Glasgow\n\nIR35 Status: InsideIR35\n\nPosition Overview\n\nWe are looking for an experienced Piping Designer to support engineering and project delivery across a range of energy‑sector applications, including power generation, hydrogen systems, carbon capture, and industrial utilities. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Creo, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor, with a strong understanding of piping design for high‑integrity, safety‑critical systems.\n\nYou will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to produce accurate, compliant, and fabrication‑ready piping designs that support the development of next‑generation energy infrastructure.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDevelop detailed 3D piping models and 2D fabrication drawings for energy‑sector equipment and systems.\nProduce piping layouts, isometrics, GA drawings, and BOMs aligned with project requirements.\nInterpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and engineering specifications for energy‑related systems.\nEnsure designs comply with relevant industry codes and standards (ASME B31.1/B31.3, PED, ISO, BS EN).\nDesign piping for systems such as: \nSteam, condensate, and cooling water\nHydrogen and gas distribution\nThermal fluids and heat‑transfer systems\nCarbon capture and chemical process loops\nHigh‑pressure and high‑temperature applications\nCollaborate with process, mechanical, and electrical engineers to optimise system\nSupport HAZOP/HAZID design considerations and incorporate safety requirements.\nCoordinate with fabrication, installation, and commissioning teams to ensure design intent is maintained.\nMaintain accurate documentation, revision control, and adherence to project quality systems. Qualifications & Experience\n\nHNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field.\nProven experience as a Piping Designer within the energy, power, utilities, or process industries.\nProficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor (experience with multiple platforms is advantageous).\nStrong understanding of piping materials, fittings, valves, and fabrication methods used in energy applications.\nExperience producing isometrics, pipe supports, skid layouts, and equipment arrangements.\nFamiliarity with pressure systems, rotating equipment, and packaged energy systems.\nKnowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering best practices. \n\nSkills & Competencies\n\nExcellent 3D modelling and drafting capability.\nStrong understanding of safety‑critical design principles.\nAbility to interpret technical documents and engineering data.\nEffective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.\nStrong problem‑solving mindset with the ability to work independently.\nAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet demanding project deadlines. \n\nDesirable Experience\n\nExperience in one or more of the following:\nPower generation (gas, steam, biomass, nuclear)\nHydrogen production or storage\nCarbon capture and utilisation\nRenewable energy systems (solar thermal, geothermal, energy storage)\nWater treatment or industrial utilities\nFamiliarity with PLM/PDM systems (Windchill, Vault, SolidWorks PDM).\nUnderstanding of pipe stress considerations or FEA tools.\nExperience with modular skid design or plant‑room layout
