Job Summary The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team responsible for providing clinical and administrative support in a medical setting. The MA works under the direction of licensed healthcare providers to ensure efficient and effective patient care and smooth office operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Clinical Duties • Prepare patients for examination (vital signs, weight, medical history), • Assist with examinations, procedures and minor surgeries, • Administer medications and immunizations as directed, • Perform basic laboratory tests and phlebotomy, • Collect and prepare specimens for lab testing, • Clean and sterilize medical instruments, • Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date patient records within the electronic health record (EHR) system, • Document patient information, provider notes, and updates in the EHR in a timely and accurate manner, • Manage and coordinate provider schedules to support efficient clinic workflow and timely patient care, • Conduct patient follow-up communications regarding care plans, test results, referrals and provider instructions, • Process referrals and coordinate with specialty providers to ensure continuity of patient care, • Assist with obtaining prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and diagnostic testing as required, • Monitor and respond to patient messages through the EHR system or patient portal, • Prepare charts and ensure all required documentation, labs, imaging, and reports are available for provider review prior to visits, • Maintain organization of electronic patient files, including scanning and uploading medical documents into the HER, • Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, and external healthcare facilities to support patient care coordination, • Ensure patient information and documentation are handled in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies Requirements: • High School Diploma or GED required, • Bilingual - Spanish, • Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant program (CMA, RMA, CCMA, etc.), • CPR/BLS certification preferred, • Previous clinical experience preferred
