Job Description The purpose of this classification is to administer and support the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority’s (FKAA) enterprise network and perimeter security infrastructure. This position is responsible for the configuration, operation, monitoring, and optimization of all network-related hardware and software, including firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs, wireless infrastructure, and voice communications. The Network Infrastructure Administrator ensures secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity across the organization and plays a critical role in business continuity, disaster recovery, and information security. This position also provides cross-functional backup support to the System Administrator and Information Security Administrator. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This position operates under general direction from the Director of Information Technology. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment. Network Administration Duties Administer and support enterprise network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, WLAN, firewalls, switches, routers, VPN, internet connectivity, and Microsoft Teams voice communication infrastructure. Manage network segmentation, VLAN configurations, and IP routing protocols. Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot firewall platforms (e.g., Fortinet, Cisco) and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS); configure firewall rules and policies in coordination with the Information Security Administrator. Configure and support secure remote access solutions (e.g., VPN, site-to-site tunnels). Monitor network performance and troubleshoot bottlenecks, outages, or latency issues. Develop and maintain network diagrams, inventory documentation, and topology maps. Collaborate with vendors and ISPs to resolve connectivity issues and coordinate changes. Participate in business continuity planning, including redundant site links and failover architecture. Assist with wireless infrastructure deployment, management, and security. Monitor bandwidth utilization and optimize network traffic flows. Maintain and update DNS, DHCP, and network-related services. Stay informed about emerging network and cybersecurity technologies. Security and Infrastructure Support Duties Implement network security best practices in coordination with the Information Security Administrator. Configure firewalls and maintain access control rulesets, while the Information Security Administrator reviews and audits for compliance. Provide backup support for system-level infrastructure including servers, storage, and cloud networking components. Respond to and investigate network-related alerts and potential security events, including after-hours as needed. Play a critical role in real-time incident response efforts in the event of a cybersecurity attack or network compromise. Ensure proper documentation and cross-training with peers to support IT continuity. Cross-Functional Support Collaborate regularly with the System Administrator and Information Security Administrator to maintain infrastructure integrity. Provide coverage for other infrastructure team roles during absences or high-demand periods. Participate in shared projects, upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts involving network, server, and security systems. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Provide timely communication and coordination with IT team members and business units regarding changes or incidents. Recommend and evaluate new network-related technologies and solutions. Support emergency response operations and continuity-of-operations plans. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive operational and employee data. Perform other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Associate or bachelor’s degree in Computer Networking, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related field; or equivalent technical certifications and experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in enterprise networking, including hands-on administration of firewalls, switches, and routers. Proficiency in managing network services (e.g., DNS, DHCP), VLANs, VPNs, subnetting, and voice communications over IP. Experience with firewall management (Fortinet preferred), wireless infrastructure, and perimeter security. Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills. Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and network segmentation. Familiarity with monitoring tools and logging platforms. Ability to support after-hours emergency responses and maintenance activities. Must possess Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) (or another approved certification relevant to the position) within 12 months of employment as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language. ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and distinguish colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, or temperature and noise extremes, as found in and around construction sites.
