With a pre-concept design and interpretive plan complete, we are seeking an experienced, creative, collaborative museum professional who will lend a leading voice to the curation of the current installations as well as the design and content of the Museum’s future iteration. Current collections include: • over 900 signs from over 200 properties, • nearly 2,000 renderings and hundreds of technical drawings, • more than 5,500 photographs and postcards, • over 2,000 objects, contents and reference materials in ephemera and archival collections including textiles, matchbooks, ashtrays, show programs and brochures, • approximately 200 recorded and accessioned audio and visual histories, • 167 contemporary art objects Discussions are underway to expand the collecting scope of the Museum and the Director of Collections would be a leading voice in that conversation. Summary of Duties and Responsibilities As a member of the senior leadership team and reporting to the Executive Director, the DoC will lead and define the strategy for the preservation, restoration, collections management and exhibition of the Museum’s intellectual and physical collections and archives. This role will oversee a team of four, serving as a mentor and team leader in developing individual and departmental goals including sign restoration, collections care, research, and interpretation. The successful candidate will move easily from management to community engagement and donor cultivation and stewardship. They will have a track record of important acquisitions and a national network of relationships that help facilitate collection growth and address the gaps in the collection. The DOC also leads the Board of Trustees’ Collections Committee.
