Job Description About MAVEN Project MAVEN Project connects experienced volunteer medical specialists with frontline primary care providers at community health centers across the nation through telehealth. This collaboration enhances providers’ capacity to deliver comprehensive care to underserved patients through expert consultation, mentoring, and education. Demand for the MAVEN Project’s model and services has grown amid widespread telehealth adoption and barriers to specialty care access. As such, MAVEN Project is positioned for significant expansion over the next several years, building resources and capabilities for a model that has been successful nationwide. Position Overview Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Location: Virtual (preference for California Bay Area candidates, but all qualified candidates considered) Salary Range: $145,000-$165,000, depending on experience and prior achievement Position Description The Director of Strategic Marketing & Advancement will be responsible for building and stewarding relationships that secure ongoing funding, with a particular emphasis on cultivating and expanding sponsorship opportunities with foundations and corporations, as well as with our individual donor base. This individual will partner closely with the CEO, Board, and program leaders to drive revenue, elevate visibility, and advance engagement across key audiences. They will identify the communications, stewardship, and fundraising assets required for success and collaborate with staff and Board members to deploy them effectively. This role is designed for a relationship-driven storyteller who can transform MAVEN Project’s mission and impact into meaningful partnerships and philanthropic support. The ideal candidate will focus on high-value opportunities and targets—cultivating relationships that strengthen MAVEN Project’s long-term sustainability and growth—while creating the messaging and tools needed to deepen engagement. This leader will also guide the development of targeted, data-informed marketing and fundraising strategies that support the organization’s growth. This may include crafting pitch decks, donor-facing materials, impact highlights, and engagement plans tailored to individual donors, corporate sponsors, and institutional partners—ensuring that every interaction communicates MAVEN Project’s value and strengthens our relationships. This leader may also direct and collaborate with selected grant writers to ensure appropriate selection and content, such as for institutional and government grants. The director would be joining a team of experienced, mission-oriented leaders, with a strong and supportive organizational culture. The remote work environment allows for low organizational overhead, with periodic in-person gatherings to promote workplace collaboration and support strategic planning, in addition to flexibility that supports individual employee needs. Key Responsibilities • Revenue Generation & Partnership Development, • Serve as a key partner to the CEO and CFO in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and institutional funders., • Build and manage a pipeline of high-potential relationships, guiding them from initial engagement to closed gifts and long-term partnership., • Develop tailored pitches, proposals, sponsorship packages, and donor-facing materials that clearly articulate MAVEN Project’s impact and value., • Support the CEO and Board in closing high-impact funding opportunities through strategic preparation, briefing, and follow-up., • Storytelling, Brand Strategy & Content Leadership, • Shape and steward MAVEN Project’s core brand narrative—the foundation for fundraising, partnerships, and thought leadership., • Create compelling, audience-specific content and marketing assets that drive engagement across the ecosystem: donors, clinic partners, volunteers, sponsors, and other key stakeholders., • Produce essential communications materials, including pitch decks, one-pagers, donor reports, annual impact summaries, digital and social media content, and website copy., • Translate program outcomes and data into emotionally resonant stories that deepen donor connection and highlight MAVEN Project’s value to safety-net providers and patients., • Ensure consistency and clarity of messaging across all communications, fundraising materials, and program outreach., • Oversee and maintain a strategic communications and advancement calendar that ensures consistent, meaningful touchpoints with donors and partners., • Advancement Leadership & Relationship Execution, • Oversee and guide internal and external development resources to ensure effective execution of donor stewardship and fundraising campaigns (e.g., year-end appeal, donor newsletters, cultivation touchpoints)., • Manage contracted grant writers and consultants, providing strategic direction, narrative coherence, and timely content to produce high-quality proposals and reports aligned with MAVEN Project’s mission and priorities., • Track key engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of outreach and ensure strong ROI on advancement activities., • Identify and activate opportunities that elevate MAVEN Project’s visibility—including speaking engagements, media placements, and storytelling opportunities for the CEO and Board., • Build and manage relationships with external marketing, design, PR, and digital partners to ensure high-quality communications support., • Develop simple, scalable systems (templates, brand guidelines, story library, messaging toolkit) that strengthen fundraising and communications efforts., • Partner with the CEO, CFO, program leadership, and Board to ensure that fundraising and communications strategies are integrated with organizational goals and contribute to long-term sustainability. Preferred Skills & Collaborative Responsibilities • Partner with development staff and/or consultants to ensure CRM systems, reporting, and follow-up workflows effectively support donor pipeline movement and relationship cultivation., • Set and track quarterly revenue goals with clearly defined KPIs tied to both dollar outcomes and activity metrics (e.g., donor meetings advanced, proposals submitted, partnerships closed)., • Plan and execute high-impact in-person events—including donor cultivation gatherings, partner convenings, and organizational showcases—that deepen engagement and strengthen MAVEN Project’s brand. Lead event strategy, content, and follow-up to ensure measurable ROI in relationship building and revenue generation., • Use AI appropriately to efficiently generate audience and communication appropriate content Qualifications • Proven ability to translate compelling communications, decks, and narratives into 6- and 7-figure gifts, grants, and sponsorships., • Expertise in digital marketing, social media, and brand management to support donor engagement and organizational visibility., • Exceptional storyteller/marketer who can seamlessly move from crafting a donor narrative to delivering a persuasive pitch., • Operates with urgency, creativity, and accountability; thrives in fast-paced, execution-focused environments., • Deep passion for MAVEN Project’s mission and commitment to expanding healthcare access., • Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic and annual plans with measurable outcomes., • Outstanding leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire and influence stakeholders at all levels., • Strong writing and editing abilities, with skill in tailoring content for diverse audiences (donors, partners, clinicians, volunteers), with appropriate use of AI tools., • Experience using data and analytics to assess marketing and fundraising performance and inform decision-making., • Highly collaborative working style with the ability to foster cross-functional alignment and engagement., • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred., • Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, and/or development leadership roles., • Preference for proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and relevant fundraising/marketing platforms., • Preference for experience managing and developing staff or cross-functional teams.
