The Product Safety & Validation Test Engineer will be based out of our Bethlehem, PA facility, and will be responsible for hands-on laboratory testing of innovative products in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market segment. This role focuses on engineering validation, qualification, and regulatory compliance testing to ensure product designs meet safety, performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements from early prototypes through production. The Test Engineer will work directly to set up, execute, and analyze tests, supporting Design Validation Testing (DVT) and formal safety certification activities. This position partners closely with Product Engineering, manufacturing, and external NRTL laboratories to validate designs, identify risks early, and ensure robust, compliant products. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following: Hands-On Testing & Validation • Perform hands-on testing of electrical and electromechanical systems, including power electronics, battery systems, and control hardware., • Develop, execute, and maintain validation test plans to verify design requirements, safety margins, and performance targets., • Set up and operate lab equipment such as power supplies, loads, environmental chambers, oscilloscopes, DAQs, and safety test equipment., • Build and modify test fixtures, harnesses, and setups to support validation and compliance testing., • Execute stress, fault, abuse, environmental, and reliability testing to identify design weaknesses and failure modes., • Execute and support product safety and regulatory compliance testing to applicable standards (UL, CSA, NEC, etc.)., • Prepare products and documentation for NRTL certification testing, including pre-compliance evaluations and gap analysis., • Coordinate and support testing with external NRTLs, including test setup reviews, witness testing, and resolution of non-conformances., • Actively participate in the Phase-Gate Product Development Process, providing test readiness assessments and validation status updates., • Support sustaining engineering and manufacturing by executing requalification, regression, and change-validation testing., • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Product Management to ensure test coverage aligns with product and business requirements., • Provide clear, concise test reports and risk assessments to engineering teams and senior leadership., • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline, • Minimum 2+ years of hands test and validation experience preferred., • Strong background in engineering validation, qualification, or reliability testing of electrical or electromechanical products., • Experience testing to UL, CSA, NEC, or similar safety standards; BESS or energy storage experience strongly preferred., • Demonstrated ability to independently set up tests, operate lab equipment, and safely test high-power or high-voltage systems., • Experience diagnosing test failures, documenting results, and driving issues to resolution with design teams., • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document test results and recommendations., • Ability to manage multiple test activities and priorities in a fast-paced product development environment.
