Job Description Position: Engineering Manager Department: Engineering / Design Responsible to: Group Technical Director Location: Gloucester / On-site (with occasional travel) About TBS Engineering TBS Engineering is a global leader in automated battery assembly and manufacturing equipment. The Role As Engineering Manager at TBS Engineering, you will support the Group Technical Director in the efficient operation of the Design Office. Working closely with the Electrical & Controls Manager and Product Development Manager, you will lead the delivery of accurate, high-quality project designs, drive continuous improvement across design processes, and support the recruitment, development, and performance of the Mechanical Engineering team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the high standards expected by TBS customers worldwide. Key Responsibilities • Lead and manage day-to-day design office activities, including resource allocation, team meetings, design reviews, and project handovers, • Ensure project designs are delivered accurately, on time, and within agreed budgets, • Work with Design Section Managers to design, develop, and manage machine projects from concept through to commissioning, • Drive continuous improvement of design processes, systems, procedures, and standards across engineering teams, • Ensure consistent and effective use of engineering systems including IFS, SolidWorks, and Agnilink across the group, • Collaborate with IT and Section Managers to improve system functionality and efficiency, • Work closely with the Electrical & Controls Manager to ensure mechanical and electrical designs are aligned, complete, and compatible, • Ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and PLC elements across all machine designs, • Support Service Technicians and Project Management with prompt technical solutions arising from site visit reports, • Support Aftermarket teams with timely release of machine and spares assemblies and identification of long-term spares, • Promote strong collaboration between Design and Production teams to resolve build issues and improve manufacturability, • Develop and track departmental KPIs covering milestones, release dates, late changes, and design quality, • Identify engineering problems and implement effective engineering solutions, • Ensure all Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) are completed accurately and in a timely manner, • Enhance machine functionality and safety through risk assessments aligned to UK safety standards and customer requirements, • Provide technical support to customers and attend site when required, • Support Design Managers with recruitment, development, and career progression of engineers, • Drive development of robust, commercially viable machines designed for 24/7, three-shift operation, • Ensure designs meet energy efficiency, reliability, and UK Health & Safety requirements, • Work closely with other departments including Tooling, Electrical, and Test to inspect completed machines, • Collaborate with Technical Publications to ensure manuals, spares lists, and documentation are complete and up to date, • Act with integrity, professionalism, and accountability at all times, • Live the values of TBS Engineering and Berkshire Hathaway in everything you do Responsibilities are not limited to the above and may include other tasks within your engineering capability.
