Job Description The WRTP | BIG STEP Lead Instructor & Facilities Manager is responsible for transforming lives by teaching, mentoring, being a role model, and guiding participant learning by providing a dynamic, innovative, and positive learning environment. This position is adept at training and instructing in a variety of areas including the National Building Trade's Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3), OSHA 30, CPR, tool recognition, blueprint reading, construction math, and hands-on skilled training. The WRTP | BIG STEP Lead Instructor & Facilities Manager is responsible for class instruction, staff planning and supervision, maintenance, repairs, clean-up, inventory, ensuring safety and compliance, budget management, vendor management, communication, and problem solving. • 60% of time will be instructing classes on the National Building Trade's Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3), OSHA 30, CPR, tool recognition, blueprint reading, construction math, and hands-on skilled training, • 25% of time will be spent on building maintenance and care tasks, • 10% of time will be spent working with managers and directors on staff planning and performing direct staff supervision., • 5% of time will support management and the program coordination team with assessment, planning, and improvement of the service delivery model and its execution Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction • Responsible for instructing adult and youth candidates interested in entering manufacturing and construction trade apprenticeships in the areas of building trade curriculum (hands-on), • Presents subject matter using various teaching methods and technology to adapt to varied learning styles, • Instruct and monitor students individually and in groups in the use and care of equipment, tools, and materials to prevent injury and damage by using a variety of methods including lecture, demonstration, and hands-on learning, • Prepare materials for activities and collaborate with other instructors on educational experience, • Provide CPR training, • Lead OSHA 30 instruction, • Offer instruction on blueprint reading and construction math Training and Instruction Oversight • Work with region managers and directors to plan curriculum to fulfill contractual needs, • Update curriculum and create new curriculum to keep up with changes in the industry, • Collaborate with managers and coordinators and schedule instructors to fill all training and instruction needs., • Order supplies needed for training classes, • Maintain and oversee use of tools and equipment, • Able to instruct in a manner that encourages engagement and transfer of learning to hands-on activities, • Enforce rules and procedures for students, • Assist in planning and supervising class projects, • Represent WRTP | BIG STEP, members, and partners in a professional manner at all times Facilities Maintenance and Care Tasks • Basic electrical repairs including fixing wiring, lighting, and power systems, • Basic plumbing maintenance, addressing leaks, pipe blockages, and water supply issues, • Organization of tools, instructional materials, and all related items for safety and security, • HVAC upkeep by ensuring heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems run efficiently, • Regularly perform fire safety equipment inspection., • Basic structural care involving repairing cracks, walls, doors, and windows to maintain safety and appearance., • Work with existing vendors to maintain common shop areas to include cleaning, trash removal, security, grounds keeping, and landscaping., • Grounds keeping, maintaining landscaping, parking lots, and exterior spaces., • Perform preventive maintenance to prevent wear or failure, such as cleaning filters or inspecting systems, • Take charge of Corrective Maintenance by repairing faults identified during inspections or breakdowns and consult with COO when additional repairs are necessary, • Respond to emergency maintenance by addressing immediate issues — like system failures or structural damage — following unexpected events, • The primary work environment is likely to be a classroom and training facility, • Hearing and speaking to exchange information, • Vision sufficient to read various materials, • Dexterity of hands and fingers to perform the tasks required of the position, • Regularly stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time, • Bending at waist, kneeling, or crouching, • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally, • Climbing ladders, • Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; works well individually and in group settings., • Customer Service: The ability to use reason when dealing with difficult or emotional learner situations. Requirements 3 years of recent journey level work experience in building trades; or 1-year certificate or degree and two years journey level work experience in building trades; or 5 years’ union apprenticeship/construction experience. Comparable building maintenance, shop floor operations, or training experience • Demonstrated expertise in the construction industry., • Train the Trainer in OSHA 30 and CPR or have the ability to complete within first month of employment., • 5 years’ union apprenticeship/construction experience preferred., • Prior Union apprenticeship/construction instruction desired., • Knowledge of multiple building trades competencies, tools, and equipment., • Thorough knowledge of standard computer programs, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new systems., • The ability to work comfortably with a diverse clientele, in both group and individual settings, preferably with experience supporting adults entering into employment and meeting career goals., • The ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of customers., • The ability to pass an extensive background check., • Flexible scheduling: most work will be performed between 8 – 5 but may require occasional evenings and weekends., • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail oriented., • This position requires a driver's license, reliable transportation, and state mandated vehicle insurance., • Previous welding certification and/or instruction preferred., • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
