Job Description JOB TITLE: Head Athletic Trainer DEPARTMENT: Athletics REPORTS TO: Athletic Director UNIVERSITY MISSION: Rochester Christian University prepares students for professional and personal success as they serve in God's world. POSITION SUMMARY: The athletic trainer is responsible for providing health care needs to student-athletes enrolled at Rochester Christian University. Health care needs include prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses sustained during sanctioned practices and competitions. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: • Master’s degree in physical education, sports medicine or related field, • 1 year of athletic training or related experience ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Embody and embrace the RCU Mission to all coaches and student-athletes, • Developing and directing the daily operations of the athletic training facilities, • Provide hours of operation for rehab of student-athletes, • Provide hours of open training room times, • Maintain a clean and welcoming athletic training room, • Collect and maintain all required documentation prior to athletes’ participation, • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documents online for athletes to access, • Maintain database to store documents and track injuries for each athlete, • Ensure all athletes have adequate insurance, • Report any non-compliance of athletes to the Athletic Director, • Manage the treatment of athletic injuries incurred during intercollegiate activity, • Coordinate physician referral of student-athletes and their injuries, • Direct and supervise the rehabilitation of athletic injuries, • Assist student-athletes with insurance claims, • Oversee practice and game day training needs, • Supervise on campus practices and select off campus practices, • Supervise all home contests as scheduled in conjunction with the Athletic Director, • Maintain inventory of training supplies and equipment, • The athletic trainer serves as a liaison between student-athlete, coach, and physician, • Coordinate the CPR certification of all members of the athletic department, • Must maintain all required certifications mandated by the State and other agencies, • Manage the adjunct trainer and contracted trainers, • Create a schedule of contests and practices for coverage, • Oversee the adjunct trainer as related to care of athletes, • Coordinate the coverage of certain sports, mainly hockey, with contracted trainers, • Promote an inclusive Rochester Christian University through demonstration of our Diversity Statement. Participate in developmental activities to increase understanding and awareness of issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion both individually and as related to my field of work, profession or discipline. SUPERVISORY DUTIES: • Supervise all on campus practices and selected off campus practices, • Respectable and responsible, • Competent and knowledgeable of current rehabilitation treatments and modalities, • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends, • Ability to promote and encourage social and spiritual leadership, • Professional in appearance and conduct, • Ability to provide good customer service with acceptable bedside manner to student-athletes, • Supportive of the University mission.
