Department: Dentistry, School of Health Sciences, College of Medicine and Health – University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK. Employment Type: Full time (part‑time 8 hours per week possible). Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 (dependent on experience). Contract: Permanent. Closing date: 22 July 2026. The successful candidate will support teaching leadership, academic citizenship, and clinical service at a senior level as part of an honorary contract with the Birmingham Community Health Care Foundation Trust. • Contribute to the pedagogical knowledge base and develop teaching resources or practice‑based research., • Lead and support innovative teaching approaches and methodologies., • Design curriculum at module and programme levels, ensuring contemporary, inclusive, engaging and challenging content., • Engage students in curriculum design., • Publish and present on education policy and practice., • Participate in external quality assurance activities (e.g., external examining)., • Assist in recruitment and admission of students where appropriate., • Co‑supervise doctoral students to completion., • Develop teaching, learning and assessment policies and strategies., • Act as an education mentor to colleagues., • Develop new approaches to learning and teaching., • Contribute to knowledge transfer and enterprise, enhancing student experience and employability., • Teach and examine courses at a range of levels; plan, review and refine teaching approaches; develop programme proposals; supervise, mark and examine. All teaching will be informed by discipline‑based research., • Lead departmental or school activities and represent the school on college or university committees., • Contribute to the development and running of the department or school, including teaching assessment., • Lead international engagement at the school or college level., • Manage staff and resources supporting major teaching activities., • Help shape the learning and teaching strategy of the department and university., • Deliver knowledge transfer, enterprise, business and public engagement with high‑value impact., • Implement a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion through policies, procedures and practices., • Serve on and assist with university committees and task groups (e.g., Senate, Council, Education Committee)., • Chair or chair sub‑committees associated with external bodies., • Project‑manage teams to devise and implement programmes or recruitment drives., • Contribute to widening participation and public understanding of the discipline., • Participate in administrative panels such as appeals panels or working groups., • Identify well‑being issues and develop solutions., • Take ownership of challenges faced by the school or college, collaborating with colleagues to find solutions., • Mentor and coach early‑career colleagues., • Provide clinical service as part of an honorary contract under a service lead., • Develop clinical skills in orthodontics., • Deliver personal treatment sessions on an outpatient basis., • Support junior dentists and nurses through teaching programmes., • Collaborate with trust colleagues to strengthen the dental service network., • Dentist (registered with GDC, licence to practise, completed specialist training, participating in clinical appraisal and re‑validation)., • Demonstrated competence in teaching, learning, management and administration., • Teaching experience within the subject specialism., • Typically a higher degree (PhD) or equivalent qualifications., • High national reputation for teaching and learning excellence., • Proven use of effective teaching methods and assessment strategies that promote high‑quality learning., • Strategic development of new programmes, approaches to learning or learning resources., • Significant contributions to teaching excellence within the department, school, college or externally., • Mentor colleagues to develop teaching skills., • High‑value impact knowledge transfer and enterprise benefiting the college and university., • Successful and sustained performance in significant administrative/managerial roles (e.g., exams officer)., • Innovative contributions to the management/administration of the department, school or college., • Active participation in committees, collaborative teaching and administrative tasks., • Promotion of equality and diversity to stakeholders., • Use of data to identify equality and diversity issues., • Development of interventions to address equality and diversity issues.
