Job Description Our client is a well-established industrial packaging solutions provider serving customers across manufacturing, food production, retail, and logistics. Their service team is the face of the business in the field — the people customers call when uptime matters and problems need to be solved fast. This is a hands-on role for a technician who takes ownership, thinks independently, and takes pride in leaving every job site better than they found it. You'll be trained on proprietary equipment, supported by a tight-knit technical team, and given the autonomy to manage your work in the field without someone looking over your shoulder. What You'll Own • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical and electrical issues on end-of-line packaging equipment at customer facilities across the region, • Perform installations, retrofits, preventive maintenance, and repairs — including PLC program modifications and servo drive reconfigurations, • Train customer personnel on proper equipment setup, operation, and maintenance protocols, • Submit detailed reports on machine performance, open issues, and improvement opportunities, • Identify and communicate potential upsell opportunities (parts, upgrades, retrofits) observed during site visits, • Maintain daily communication with the Technical Resource Planner on job status, delays, and any escalating issues, • Represent the organization with professionalism and integrity in every customer and supplier interaction, • Hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience — you're comfortable diagnosing problems on industrial equipment and seeing the fix through, • Background in at least one of the following: field service (OEM), plant maintenance, industrial/packaging automation, or electromechanical systems, • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, • Comfort traveling 25–50% of the time, with regional travel as the norm and occasional national trips as needed, • Strong written and verbal communication — you can document what happened and explain it clearly to both technical and non-technical contacts, • Physical capability to lift 50–80 lbs regularly and safely carry up to 20 lbs on a ladder; forklift operation required, • PLC experience, particularly Allen-Bradley CompactLogix or PanelView HMI, • Servo system experience (Allen-Bradley preferred), • Electromechanical certification (AAS or BS in Mechatronics, EE, EET, or Industrial Electronics), • Packaging or automation equipment background No degree required — relevant hands-on experience is what matters here. Benefits Base salary: $70,000–$80,000 (higher compensation available for candidates with advanced experience) Performance-based bonus structure with additional perks tied to hitting targets Full-time, direct-hire position On-the-job training on proprietary equipment — no expectation that you arrive knowing their specific systems In-office base in the Greater Chicago area with a clear, structured travel framework
