Job Description Job Title: Cook Job Description This role plays a key part in delivering safe, nutritious, and well-prepared meals for patients, visitors, and staff in a rehabilitation care environment. The cook prepares a variety of menu items and therapeutic diets while maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and presentation. Responsibilities • Prepare and cook meals by following standardized recipes, production sheets, and therapeutic diet requirements., • Ensure proper portioning, temperature control, and presentation for all meal services, including patient meals, cafeteria offerings, and special events., • Follow therapeutic diet guidelines such as cardiac, diabetic, renal, pureed, and other texture‑modified diets to meet patient needs., • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with HACCP, food safety, and regulatory standards., • Assist with inventory management, including food rotation, labeling, and proper storage procedures to ensure freshness and minimize waste., • Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, steamers, grills, slicers, and other foodservice equipment., • Support meal service for patient dining, cafeteria service, and special events by coordinating timing and delivery of food items., • Work collaboratively with dietary staff to ensure accurate meal delivery, accommodate special requests, and support patient satisfaction., • Perform dishwashing and general kitchen cleanup tasks as needed to maintain an organized and efficient work area., • Participate in documentation and inventory control activities to support accurate ordering and stock levels. Essential Skills • Proven experience in food preparation and cooking in a foodservice, hospitality, or healthcare setting., • Ability to follow recipes, production sheets, and therapeutic diet guidelines accurately., • Strong knowledge of kitchen sanitation practices and food safety standards, including HACCP compliance., • Experience with foodservice operations such as tray line service and cafeteria or restaurant-style service., • Ability to operate and care for kitchen equipment such as ovens, steamers, grills, and slicers safely., • Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining quality and accuracy., • Experience with dishwashing and maintaining cleanliness in a commercial kitchen., • Effective communication skills to work with dietary staff and support accurate meal delivery. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with documentation and inventory control processes in a kitchen or foodservice setting., • Familiarity with food rotation, labeling, and storage best practices., • Understanding of therapeutic diets, including cardiac, diabetic, renal, pureed, and texture‑modified diets., • Previous experience in a healthcare or rehabilitation care facility is an asset. Work Environment This position is based in a rehabilitation care facility kitchen that supports patient dining, cafeteria service, and special events. The role follows a first-shift schedule, typically 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating weekend coverage. You will work in a fast-paced, production-oriented kitchen environment using commercial equipment such as ovens, steamers, grills, slicers, and dishwashing systems. The facility operates under strict HACCP, food safety, and regulatory standards, requiring consistent attention to cleanliness, sanitation, and safe food handling. Staff typically wear appropriate kitchen attire, including non-slip footwear and protective garments, to ensure safety and hygiene throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Williamsport, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.85/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
