    We are looking for a reliable and caring Personal Assistant / Support worker / learning support / carer for a disabled and autistic non verbal teenager with epilepsy, movement disorder and additional health needs. Ideally you are very interested in special needs and autism to join the very dedicated team of 6 around a young man. He lives at home with his family and dog. His team of Personal assistants / learning support workers / carers help him with his daily life & routine which includes supporting and facilitating access to activities and community, help him with learning more self help skills and communication, all of his personal care, provide 1 - 2 overnight support shifts per week (these are waking nights), and keep his environment and laundry clean & tidy. He is a friendly, non verbal, very autistic teenager. He needs help with all elements of daily life. He is developing his communication skills using picture exchange and gestures, such as pointing. When he is well he likes physical activities — like going not the pool, walks in parks, disability bike rides. He needs support with all of these activities as he also has a movement disorder. He also like to chill with his sister and dog and watch movies and join in Family meals. Unfortunately he often also needs a lot of care as he can have seizures which lead to him needing to spend time in hospital. He is home educated with an behavioural therapy programme due to his health needs. The programme is overseen by an ABA Consultant. You will be provided with regular training on his health needs, care needs, and behavioural support. The training is provided by the experienced team members as well as his ABA therapist. You need to be strong and fun as well as reliable to fit into the very professional and young team. Experience with disabled teenagers / children and autism is preferred. Perhaps you have already experience with catheterisation and Peresteen as well as PEG otherwise we can train you. This might be a good position for someone who has a keen interest in disability, psychology, nursing and the position could suit a part time student of a relevant field. Unfortunately we do not think that having worked in a care home would be relevant experience. It is also an opportunity to learn a lot and to be part of a very nice supportive team. You would need to be willing to commit for a minimum of 12 months. We would prefer someone who can work with a UTR number on a self-employed basis and who can work a minimum of 35 hours per week. We hope to find someone who is open to work some weekends and some bank holidays too (shared with the team). 28 days of paid holidays when working full time (extra paid holidays for every bank holiday worked). Starting wage is £16 per hour. (£15 during initial training).     We are looking for a Support Worker & Carer for a disabled teenager for waking nights and days shifts. 2 Waking nights (13hrs) and 2 day shifts (7- 8 hours) per week. About the young Person: The teenager is a friendly, non verbal, very autistic young man with severe epilepsy, a movement disorder and additional health needs. He can walk only with support. He needs help with all elements of his daily life. He has 24 hour 1:1 support and for some activities 2:1 support (eg. when visiting the pool, special needs bike club, visiting the park, going to shops and occasionally cafes and pub lunch). During all activities (even while walking) he needs full support at all times. His health conditions can lead to him spending extended time in hospital. So we are seeking someone who can be fun but is also very patient as his time in hospital can be much more taxing and he will need much more support and care there. His amazing team care for him and organise his daily activities both in the community as well as home. They keep his environment clean and tidy and help with his considerable amount of laundry. The team also accompany him on holidays. They make sure that he can enjoy his live as much as possible. The team around him meet regularly with the ABA consultant to discuss his care and behaviour plan. They also meet to discuss what works well within the team or to discuss concerns the family has. About you and the responsibilities of the position: You would need to be fit and strong to give him appropriate support. We are looking for someone who is truly interested in special needs and autism and ideally has studied something related or is still studying (eg psychology, nursing, health and social care etc). Ideally you already have some experience. You are someone who is not afraid to learn care elements like catheterisation and dealing with PEG and Peristeen and dealing with medications. (best research those before we discuss the position further). You need to be able to deliver care with dignity. The behaviour plan (ABA) would be explained to you and you would be required to attend the team meetings with our ABA Consultant and the rest of the experienced team. All training is delivered by shadowing with an experienced team member. Being able to go to the pool with him (only the shallow part of the pool) is a requirement - so ideally only swimmers apply. The Job involves two waking night shifts and two day shifts per week and sometimes you would be expected to cover for colleagues too (so more shifts when colleagues are away - they will cover for you as well when you have holidays). The position would require you to work some weekends and some bank holidays (shared with the team). If you prefer to work every weekend and have days off during the week - please let us know. Team members will cover for each other if anyone is on holiday or ill. The family will also need cover over the Christmas period (not all days required) and or new Year, Easter as well as some extra time in Summer. We are looking for someone who is fair with the rest of the team and the family on how they take time off and how they cover for colleagues. But most importantly the right candidate will need to be a bit flexible and helpful. In turn there will be flexibility around days worked to accommodate studies or other commitments. About the position: This position includes day shifts as well as waking night shifts. Strictly waking nights. This has to be your only job. This is an opportunity to learn a lot and also to have a fulfilling job and working with a nice team. It is a household with a friendly dog. Only non-smokers & non vapers apply!
