Head of Partnerships & Operations - Running and Endurance Sports Overview Organised running is changing. Race organisers are under pressure from rising costs, regulation, volunteer fatigue, and shifting runner expectations. At the same time, runners increasingly want flexibility, legitimacy, and meaningful ways to participate that fit around modern life. Skamper Anytime sits at the centre of this change. It enables credible, organiser-led racing beyond race day — extending successful events, preserving those under threat, and creating a new category that sits between traditional racing and informal challenges. The Head of Anytime Racing is a founding role to help make that future real. The opportunity This is not a conventional senior role in an established business. It is: • A chance to help define an entirely new part of the running ecosystem, • A role with real autonomy and influence, • An opportunity to work directly with organisers, runners, and routes, • A position that is likely to start part-time and grow with the success of the concept We are looking for someone who is excited by building something new, not maintaining something old. The role The Head of Anytime Racing will: • Be the public-facing champion of Anytime racing with organisers, • Help organisers imagine how Anytime could work for their events, • Translate the concept into credible, practical implementations, • Work hands-on with routes, courses, and formats, • Support runners and organisers through early delivery, • Help shape what this category becomes This is a hybrid role: part commercial, part operational, part evangelist. Key responsibilities 1. Working with race organisers • Identify and engage race organisers who could benefit from Anytime, • Explain the concept clearly and honestly, • Help organisers decide whether Anytime is an extension or a replacement, • Co-design Anytime formats that respect the integrity of their events, • Build long-term, trust-based relationships in the sector 2. Course and format development • Work with Skamper’s route planning experts to design Anytime courses, • Help ensure courses reflect the character and difficulty of the original events, • Understand and explain route equivalence, grading, and safety considerations 3. Product understanding and advocacy • Develop a deep understanding of the Skamper app and grading system, • Explain the app clearly to organisers and runners, • Feed back real-world insights to the product team, • Help shape how Anytime racing is presented in the app 4. Supporting runners and organisers • Answer early-stage organiser and runner queries, • Help manage expectations around Anytime formats, • Act as a human bridge between technology and lived experience, • Ensure the tone remains collaborative, credible, and respectful 5. Demonstration events and thought leadership • Help design and, where appropriate, organise Skamper-led Anytime events, • Use these events to demonstrate best practice, • Represent Skamper in conversations, panels, and sector discussions, • Help articulate the long-term vision for Anytime racing Who this role is for We are looking for someone who: • Is deeply embedded in the running or endurance events sector, • Is trusted by organisers, runners, or both, • Understands the realities of race organisation, • Cares about legitimacy, safety, and fairness, • A race director or former race director, • A senior figure in an events company, • A well-connected organiser, consultant, or coach, • Someone already straddling commercial and community roles Mindset and values This role requires someone who: • Is a believer in the idea that racing can evolve without being diluted, • Is willing to take measured personal risk in exchange for influence and meaning, • Enjoys building trust more than closing deals, • Is comfortable starting part-time and growing into the role, • Sees long-term value in shaping a new category What success looks like In the first 6–12 months: • A small number of high-quality Anytime partnerships launched, • Strong organiser advocacy and word-of-mouth, • Clear patterns emerging around what works and what doesn’t, • Skamper recognised as a credible partner in Anytime racing In the longer term: • The Head of Anytime Racing becomes a central figure in the category, • The role grows in scope, security, and influence, • Anytime racing becomes a normal, respected part of the running landscape, • Converting some of the established ‘virtual race’ events to the concept of Anytime Racing, • Developing an International plan once established in the UK What we offer • A founding role in a genuinely new concept, • Real influence over direction and execution, • Flexibility around time commitment and structure, • The chance to help create something that could bring joy to millions — in the way parkrun did “I helped build that.”
