Job DescriptionSalary: Title: Yard Mechanic Location: New Stanton, PA FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary: Seeking a skilled Shop Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair railroad construction and maintenance-of-way equipment (ballast regulators, tampers, tie inserters, hi-rail trucks, excavators, etc.) at our New Stanton, PA shop. The ideal candidate ensures equipment availability, safety compliance, and timely repairs to support project schedules. Key Responsibilities: • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, air brakes, electrical systems, and pneumatics for railroad construction equipment and heavy trucks., • Perform routine inspections, fluid changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups per manufacturer and company maintenance schedules., • Fabricate and repair components using welding, cutting, and machining techniques as needed., • Troubleshoot and repair onboard electronics, sensors, controls, and communication equipment., • Maintain accurate maintenance records, parts usage logs, and service reports in company systems., • Order and manage parts inventory; coordinate with vendors for special parts or rebuilds., • Support field teams with diagnostic assistance and emergency repairs as required., • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company safety regulations (e.g., FRA, OSHA), including lockout/tagout and confined-space procedures., • Participate in safety meetings and training; enforce safe work practices in the shop., • Assist with equipment rigging, lifting, and movement within the shop and yard. Minimum Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED., • 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing heavy construction equipment or railroad maintenance equipment; diesel mechanic experience required., • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic skills., • Proficient welding skills (MIG/TIG/Stick) and basic fabrication ability., • Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and technical documents., • Valid drivers license; ability to obtain and operate a company vehicle when required., • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in varied weather conditions, and stand/stoop for extended periods., • Must pass background check and drug/alcohol screening. Preferred Qualifications: • Certifications: ASE Diesel, CDL (Class B), or manufacturer-specific certifications., • Prior railroad industry experience and familiarity with FRA regulations., • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)., • Forklift and crane/rigger experience. Working Conditions: • On-site shop position with occasional support to field locations., • Exposure to noise, grease, oils, fuels, and outdoor weather., • Regular weekday hours with occasional nights or weekends and on-call duties during peak seasons or emergencies.
