Job Description Job Title: Shipping and Receiving / Record Center Specialist (1st shift $17 to start after 90 days it goes to 20.50 an hour) Job Description This role focuses on shipping, receiving, and record center operations within a busy warehouse environment. You will handle, move, and organize boxes of files and materials, process inbound and outbound orders, and use technology to track inventory. The position is highly physical and requires frequent lifting, carrying, and arranging of boxes, as well as accurate data entry and attention to detail. Responsibilities • Move, arrange, lift, and load storage boxes, bins, and totes ranging from 10 lbs to over 100 lbs throughout the shift., • Walk, stand, kneel, squat, stoop, crawl, and bend for extended periods while performing daily tasks., • Grip, lift, push, pull, and carry boxes manually, including up and down inclines, stairs, and over changes in walking surface or elevation., • Lift and carry boxes weighing up to 100 lbs without assistance for prolonged periods as needed., • Load, operate, and move hand carts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely., • Load and shrink wrap pallets at ground level or on carts to prepare shipments., • Load boxes onto pallets and load pallets onto trucks manually and with material handling equipment., • Process inbound freight by receiving, unloading, and organizing boxes and materials in the correct locations., • Handle outbound freight by picking, packing, and staging orders accurately for shipment., • Read labels, verify order details, and process incoming and outgoing orders with a high level of accuracy., • Use a proprietary computer system to track orders and determine the location of boxes and materials., • Perform data entry related to shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking in a timely and accurate manner., • Operate a handheld scanner and RF scanner to scan barcodes and update inventory records., • Meet daily pick counts and productivity targets while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail., • Select, pick, and package orders according to established procedures and customer requirements., • Use ladders safely to access boxes stored at various heights while maintaining balance., • Ensure boxes, files, binders, backup tapes, and other materials are stored, moved, and arranged according to warehouse standards., • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of material handling aids and personal protective equipment., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including pallets, aisles, and storage locations., • Support overall shipping and receiving operations by assisting team members and adapting to changing priorities. Essential Skills • Ability to lift and carry boxes ranging from 10 lbs to 100 lbs without assistance for prolonged periods., • Capability to walk, stand, kneel, squat, stoop, crawl, and bend for extended periods during the shift., • Experience working in a warehouse environment processing orders and moving boxes of files, books, binders, backup tapes, and other materials., • Ability to safely load and operate hand trucks, hand carts, pallet jacks, and other material handling aids., • Skill in loading and shrink wrapping pallets at ground level or on carts., • Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including handling inbound and outbound freight., • Proficiency with RF scanners and handheld scanners for tracking inventory and orders., • Ability to use a proprietary computer system for data entry, order tracking, and locating boxes., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and order processing., • Capability to meet pick counts and productivity goals while maintaining accuracy., • Ability to read and write in English to interpret labels, orders, and system instructions., • Comfort working at heights using ladders while maintaining balance and safety., • Physical stamina to perform repetitive lifting, carrying, and material handling tasks throughout the day. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous experience in shipping and receiving, order selection, or warehouse packing roles., • Experience with material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and hand carts in a warehouse setting., • Familiarity with packaging, packing, and order fulfillment processes., • Experience handling inbound and outbound freight in a high-volume environment., • Comfort working around stored documents, files, and sensitive information., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. Work Environment The role is based in a warehouse that stores files and documents for a wide range of organizations. Many boxes have been stored for 10–15 years or more, so some materials can be dirty or dusty, and you should be comfortable working in that type of environment. The facility can get hot in the summer, though air is circulated to improve comfort. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, providing a consistent workweek. During the day, you receive two paid 15-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute lunch break. You will regularly use material handling equipment such as hand carts and pallet jacks, as well as handheld and RF scanners and a proprietary computer system. Safety protection and PPE are provided, and shoe vouchers support appropriate footwear for a warehouse setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
