The Position The Commercial Audio Video Installation Technician (Entry Level) supports the installation, termination, and testing of commercial AV systems in conference rooms, classrooms, and other client spaces. This role works under the direction of a Lead Technician/Project Manager to complete projects safely, neatly, and on schedule while learning industry best practices, tools, and standards. Responsibilities · Assist with rough-in and trim-out of commercial AV systems (mounting displays, speakers, microphones, cameras, projectors, and related hardware). · Pull, label, dress, and secure cables (CAT6, coax, speaker wire, control, and fiber where applicable) per drawings and company standards. · Terminate and test cabling (RJ-45, XLR, HDMI/DP, speaker terminations) and document results. · Assist with rack building: mounting equipment, installing power/UPS, cable management, and basic device inventory. · Support basic configuration tasks under supervision (network drops/patching, device firmware checks, endpoint connectivity). · Maintain clean, professional job sites: protect finished surfaces, keep pathways clear, and remove debris daily. · Follow safety requirements and use proper PPE; report hazards, incidents, or near-misses immediately. · Communicate status, questions, and obstacles to the Lead Technician; ask for clarification when scope changes or drawings conflict. · Participate in training and certifications as assigned; stay current on tools, products, and installation standards. Accountability · This individual will report to the Field Install Manager · Arrive on time and ready to work; maintain dependable attendance and communicate schedule changes promptly. · Complete assigned tasks to company quality standards (neat workmanship, correct labeling, proper mounting, and safe routing). Qualifications · High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade schooling is a plus. · 0–2 years of related experience (low-voltage, construction, IT cabling, security, or AV) preferred; willing to train the right candidate. · Basic hand/power tool proficiency (drill/driver, impact, level, fish tape, punch-down tools). · Ability to read basic drawings and follow written work instructions/checklists. · Comfort working on ladders and lifts and in construction environments. · Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as scheduled. · Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work overhead, and perform repetitive bending/standing for extended periods. Additional Skills and Abilities · Basic understanding of low-voltage wiring practices and cable labeling conventions. · Familiarity with common AV signal types and connectors (HDMI, USB, XLR, speaker wire) preferred. · Basic computer skills (Windows, mobile apps for time entry/checklists, email/chat communication). · Strong attention to detail and pride in clean cable management. · Customer-service mindset; able to work respectfully in occupied client spaces. · Willingness to pursue industry certifications (CTS/CTS-I, manufacturer training) as assigned. · OSHA-10 and lift certification are a plus (or willingness to obtain).
