Job Description Job Title Landscape / Hardscape Technician Location Knoxville, Tennessee (and surrounding areas) Position Type Full-time (seasonal/annual) Non-exempt On-site (field work with occasional travel to job sites) About Two Brothers Landscaping Two Brothers Landscaping is a full-service residential and commercial landscaping company serving the greater Knoxville area. We specialize in both softscape (planting, turf, garden beds) and hardscape (patios, walkways, retaining walls, stonework) projects. Job Summary / Purpose As a Landscape / Hardscape Technician, you will assist with and perform a wide range of tasks in both landscaping and hardscaping. You will work under the direction of the crew leader or project manager to install, maintain, and repair outdoor environments, combining horticultural skills with construction techniques. The ideal candidate is physically fit, detail-oriented, dependable, and able to operate tools and equipment safely under varying weather conditions. Key Responsibilities & Duties Hardscape / Construction Duties • Install patios, walkways, driveways, steps, seating walls, retaining walls, and other stone or concrete features (brick, pavers, natural stone)., • Assist with excavation, base preparation, compaction, drainage systems, and grading., • Operate and maintain hardscape-specific equipment (plate compactors, saws, stone splitters, levels, chisels, etc.)., • Read and interpret drawings, plans, site layouts, and specifications., • Cut, shape, and fit stone, paver, or concrete units precisely., • Assist with structural details (edging, coping stones, mortar work as needed)., • Ensure proper drainage and slope for water runoff. Landscape / Softscape Duties • Plant trees, shrubs, perennials, groundcover, sod, and seed lawns., • Prune, trim, weed, and mulch beds., • Maintain lawns via mowing, edging, aeration, fertilizing, and overseeding., • Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems (sprinkler heads, valves, controllers, drip systems)., • Perform seasonal cleanup (leaf removal, debris hauling, edging)., • Monitor plant health, identify pests or diseases, and report issues. General / Support Duties • Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to job sites., • Maintain clean, organized work areas and take care of tools and machinery., • Collaborate with crew members, crew leader, and project managers., • Communicate with clients courteously and professionally when needed., • Adhere to safety standards, use safety gear (gloves, goggles, etc.), and report hazards., • Assist in estimating labor/time needs, materials, and project logistics (as experience allows)., • Record job progress, timesheets, and materials used. Qualifications & Skills • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required)., • Previous experience in landscaping, hardscaping, or construction (preferred)., • Proficiency (or willingness to learn) in using landscaping and hardscape equipment (mowers, skid steer, mini-excavator, saws, compactors, hand tools, etc.)., • Ability to read plans, levels, and layouts., • Physical stamina: able to lift heavy materials (stone, pavers, blocks), work in all weather conditions, stand, bend, kneel, and dig for long periods., • Good math skills (measuring, leveling, calculating quantities)., • Basic horticultural knowledge (plant types, soil, drainage)., • Valid driver’s license and good driving record (able to drive company trucks/trailers)., • Attention to detail, strong work ethic, punctuality, reliability., • Good communication and teamwork skills., • Safety-first attitude and ability to follow safety protocols., • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and job site conditions. Preferred / Bonus Qualifications (if applicable) • Certification in landscape/hardscape installation or maintenance., • Prior experience with masonry, concrete or stone setting., • Irrigation certification or experience., • Experience working with commercial projects., • Equipment operator certification (e.g. skid steer, excavator)., • CDL or ability to tow large trailers. Physical & Working Conditions • Work is primarily outdoors in various weather conditions (sun, rain, heat, cold)., • Must lift and carry heavy materials (50-100+ lbs) regularly., • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, digging, and walking over uneven terrain., • Use of power tools, machinery, and hand tools., • Occasional exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals (fertilizers, sealants).
