Job Description JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, on an assigned shift, serves as a Gate Ambassador at an entrance to the Community, the Community Center and performs related work as required. Could be assigned to work in an office performing basic clerical tasks and data entry work in support of other Division staff. Work involves extensive contact with residents and the public. Gate Ambassadors are not licensed nor function as Security Guards, are unarmed, do not make arrests and work only at the gate entrances or within Community facilities. Gate Ambassadors must be able to work a rotating schedule between day, swing and graveyard shifts, including weekends and holidays. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Gate Ambassadors screen and process guests entering the Community. Receive calls from residents and staff and use a computerized gate entry system to enter names of future guests. At Community gate entrances, checks all incoming traffic for decals/RFID, identification cards or passes; verifies visitors without passes by using the Gate Clearance Software. Directs gate traffic and provides assistance and directions; maintains general surveillance of the area and reports unusual incidents; briefs relief ambassadors as needed. Physically moves, pushes or pulls rod Iron Gate to open / close entrance when required. At reception desks, answers phones and processes guests. At applicable times and locations, opens/closes gatehouses and gates for business. When assigned to the Security office, provides general clerical support, including receptionist, data entry, filing and related work or any collateral duties as assigned by management. Also receives calls from residents and staff and uses a computerized gate entry system. Provides exceptional customer service to the residents and guests of this Community and presents a professional image and attitude at all times. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Applicant after successfully completed training and having been approved by management, could be assigned to perform the duties of a Field Trainer, training other department members in all relevant duties and functions of the position. Regular attendance is required. All duties are performed on-site for the Community. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Files written reports on incidents. EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Computer, telephone, hand-held portable radio, first aid kit and fire extinguisher. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to dust and fumes from vehicles and normal outdoor elements. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Community resident with extensive work experience involving public contact or equivalent combination of education and experience which produces the following: · Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job. · Knowledge of the computer and applicable software programs to perform the job. · Knowledge of the geography of the Community. · Knowledge on the use of computer software’s pertaining to the gates, scheduling and time keeping. · Ability to learn controlling rules, regulations and procedures. · Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain rules and regulations. · Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. · Ability to relate to the needs and concerns of senior citizens. · Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to perform the following: · Ability to hear and speak accurately to operate a telephone obtaining necessary information, hear questions and respond to individuals while they sit inside their vehicles at the gates and over the phone, in a noisy environment. · Ability to visually identify vehicle’s displaying decals/RFID’s, company vehicles and identification (ID) cards. · Ability to read a Community map and verbally give instructions. · Ability to identify and respond to dangerous situations. · Ability to speak clearly and with appropriate volume, while responding to drivers, pedestrians and during telephone conversations. · Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. · Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching. · Ability to use hands to finger, grasp, feel and reach. · Ability to carry, push, pull, and lift up to 25 lbs. · Ability to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. · Ability to kneel, pull, push, stoop, twist and lift. · Ability to walk up and down 3-5 stairs on a regular basis. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee reads, solves problems, uses verbal and written communication skills and able to handle frequent customer contact and interruptions.
